It's playoff time for Class 3A boys basketball teams around the state. South Tama will get a rematch with the Grinnell Tigers in their opening round game on Monday. We'll be live from Grinnell High School with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m. The winner of Monday's game will play either Nevada or Oskaloosa on Thursday, Feb. 22 (location TBD). Our broadcast Monday will be audio-only.

This Saturday! - South Tama girls will be hosting their first playoff game since 2019 as they welcome in the Benton Bobcats for the first round of the Class 3A regional playoffs. The postseason for boys high school wrestling starts this Saturday as teams all over the state will compete in their state-qualifying district tournaments.

We'll be live from Williamsburg as the Trojans lace it up against seven other schools in the Class 2A District 12 bracket. Join hosts Darvin Graham and Scott Bolen for play-by-play coverage of all of South Tama's matches if you can't be there in person. The top two wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the state tournament next week (Feb 14-17) in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena.

During last night's home game against Meskwaki Settlement, there was something said on air that we would like to address and apologize for.

One of our hosts was reacting to a Native American South Tama player who scored a basket by saying the player's name but replacing the first name of the player with the name "Geronimo."

While the intent of the host was to pay the player a compliment, we understand this comment came across as confusing and offensive. Although the name is a reference to a Native American military leader of historical significance, it has also been used as a stereotype and an overgeneralization of a diverse people group.

We are sorry for the comment and apologize to those that heard it on air and were offended. We hope to speak to the player later this week and apologize to them in person for what was said.

It is our responsibility, both as individuals and as a public platform, to be mindful and thoughtful of how we speak. We will take better care in the future to uphold that responsibility.

South Tama boys win two in a row, dropping a 9-win Union Knights team on the road 60-57. Freshman Emerson Bridgewater commanded the post with 13 points and 16 rebounds while two other Trojans, Jeramy Dolash (15 points) and Daniel Wiese (10 points) finished in double figures.

South Tama returns to the Roundhouse tonight for a conference doubleheader against Vinton-Shellsburg. It's also Throwback Night for STC. Check out the flyer below for details.

Tonight is a great opportunity to see the STC girls and boys teams together at home. The girls are coming off an overtime contest against Grinnell on Tuesday, while the boys hope to make it a season sweep against the Vikings having defeated them in Vinton (53-47) last month.

Also on tap for this evening is the Youth Winter Cheerleading Clinic performance and bracelet sales to support the STC Tennis programs and the Perry Schools donation effort.
