【目の眼 10・11月号 特集：名古屋刀剣博物館 サムライコレクション◇発売中】
日本刀は、単なる武器を超え、日本の文化や美意識を映し出す象徴として評価されてきました。その反りのある美しい姿が生まれたのは平安時代後期。その後公家社会から武家政権へと移り変わり、合戦の規模が拡大するなかで需要が高まり、刀工たちは各地に工房を構え、地域ごとの個性ある作風を築いていきました。千年にわたる刀剣史を読み解く鍵となるのが「五ケ伝」──大和・山城・備前・相州・美濃の五つの産地です。時代の要請や武士の美意識が、今日に伝わる名刀の姿を形作っていったのです。
今月号で膨大なコレクションを誇る名古屋刀剣博物館（名古屋刀剣ワールド）を特集するにあたり、五ケ伝の基礎知識や名刀の数々に加え、同館のある尾張・伊勢ゆかりの刀工についても紹介しています。「刀剣に興味はあるけれど、どこから学べばいいかわからない」という方にこそ、手に取っていただけたら。

The Japanese sword has been admired not only as a weapon but as a symbol of Japan’s culture and aesthetics. Its elegant curve emerged in the late Heian period, and as warfare expanded under the samurai, swordsmiths across the country developed distinctive regional styles. A thousand years of sword history can be traced through the “Five Traditions” — Yamato, Yamashiro, Bizen, Sōshū, and Mino.
This issue highlights the Nagoya Japanese Sword Museum (Nagoya Tōken World), home to a vast collection. Along with the Five Traditions and celebrated masterpieces, we also feature swordsmiths linked to Owari and Ise.
