Like the lambago, I have planted my roots firmly in the city I call home.
My trunk stands uprightly for what I believe in.
My branches stretch with the strength of a modern Kagay-anon woman.
My blossoms – golden in the day and scarlet at dusk – are spellbinding as the beauty of higalas you shall meet in my city.
This, too, is a call for action.
That, while we behold in amazement on the poetic beauty of a tree, let us plant more lambagos to mitigate flooding, enjoy more purity of air, and protect the ecosystems.
While only God can make a tree, we can usher its life, nurture it and let it bask under the sun…free.
