Forgotten Liberty Americans have forgotten their core principals of liberty. They have forgotten that our government exists to secure our rights, not run our lives.

A Conservative/Libertarian blog focused on liberty and the proper role of government in our day to day lives.

On this day in 1775, the “shot heard round the world” occurs at Lexington Green!

It had been mere hours since Paul Revere ended his famous ride from Boston to Lexington (see Sunday’s post). Seven hundred British soldiers were en route to Concord. Their goal? They wanted to seize the weapons and supplies that Americans had stored at Concord, Massachusetts.

In the early morning hours of April 19, the British troops ran into about 70 American minutemen on Lexington Green. These men were led by Captain John Parker, a veteran of the French and Indian War. As the British approached, the Americans stood firm. But then someone heard a British officer shout: “Lay down your arms, you damned rebels!” Others heard similar variations of the same comment: “Throw down your arms, ye villains, ye rebels” or “Ye villains, ye rebels, disperse, damn you, disperse!”

In the meantime, Parker later testified that he “immediately ordered our Militia to disperse, and not to fire.” Most of the men began to disperse, as ordered, but some never heard the order. And NONE of the Americans put down their arms.

No one really knows who fired the first shot that followed . . . the “shot heard round the world”!

Some British officers were certain that it was a provincial hidden behind a hedge. Others thought the shot came from a nearby tavern. Some of the militia at Lexington were certain that British officers fired at them.

Regardless, the first shot WAS fired. The British began firing at Americans, leaving eighteen Americans killed or wounded. Some Americans returned fire, but only one British soldier was mildly wounded.

The British troops continued toward Concord. They searched for weapons without finding anything of note. Potentially, the British could have simply returned to Boston at that point but for one thing: A fire broke out. The source of that fire is unknown, but the American militia thought that the British were burning down buildings. They ran for North Bridge and a brief skirmish ensued, leaving 3 British and 2 Americans dead. The British began their retreat toward Boston.

Americans fired upon British soldiers the entire way back to Boston, where they cornered them in the city. In all, nearly 300 British soldiers were killed or wounded during the retreat. By contrast, Americans lost less than 100.

The Library of Congress summarizes: “By the end of the day, the colonists were singing ‘Yankee Doodle’ and the American Revolution had begun.”

This corporate greed excuse that some people are pushing to attempt to explain why gas prices have risen over the last year doesn't make sense. I looked at the numbers for Exxon's sales and profits last year. They had a good year. They made 23 billion dollars. But you have to look at profit margins instead of just that number. People who want to deceive you about these huge multinational companies won't talk about profit margins. They'll only focus on that big number. Exxon's total sales last year were about 286 billion. That means their profit margin was about 8%. Ask any business owner you know if an 8% profit margin is greedy. I guarantee most small business owners would tell you they probably would go out of business if their profit margin was that low. 8% is not greedy.

If we took all of their profit and put it back into price reduction, we'd only see prices go down 8%. Prices had already risen way more than 8% before the war in Ukraine started. Additionally, if we look at 2 years ago, Exxon lost 20 billion because of the pandemic. So if we combine the last 2 years, they only have a 3 billion profit off of over a half a trillion dollars in sales. That's a fraction of a cent of profit off of each dollar made.

It makes no sense to blame the price increase on corporate greed. The facts don't support it. It also would assume that greed suddenly became a thing last year and wasn't around before then, which obviously is incorrect.

The lawyer who was hired by the Clinton campaign to fabricate claims regarding Trump and Russia is now claiming that lying to the FBI in an attempt to use the FBI to damage the Trump campaign is protected by the 1st amendment. Durham's not having any of that.

“Far from finding himself in the vulnerable position of an ordinary person whose speech is likely to be chilled, the defendant — a sophisticated and well-connected lawyer — chose to bring politically-charged allegations to the FBI’s chief legal officer at the height of an election season,” Durham’s filing reads. “He then chose to lie about the clients who were behind those allegations. Using such rare access to the halls of power for the purposes of political deceit is hardly the type of speech that the Founders intended to protect. The Court should therefore reject defendant’s invitation to expand the scope of the First Amendment to protect such conduct.....The defendant’s false statement to the FBI General Counsel was plainly material because it misled the General Counsel about, among other things, the critical fact that the defendant was disseminating highly explosive allegations about a then-Presidential candidate on behalf of two specific clients, one of which was the opposing Presidential campaign,” the filing reads."

The creator of the 1619 project has said the wall to wall coverage and reaction to Russia's invasion of Ukraine is proof of racial bias. The attention can't be because it is a manifestation of something most of the world feared for almost half a century ---> Russian tanks rolling across eastern Europe while Russia threatens to nuke any other nation who tries to stop them, which lays the ground work for WW3 and the potential deaths of millions of people. No, it can't be that. It has to be racism. Give me a break....

We keep seeing more and more evidence that the Trump Russia investigation was an investigation in search of a crime, or in other words, was a witch hunt. Whether you like Trump or not, this is a serious issue because it seems like the FBI was once again being used for political reasons... which has happened far too often in our history.

Amazingly, the NY Times published this video.

"Blue states are where the housing crisis is located. Blue states are where the disparities in education funding are the most dramatic. Blue states are the places where tens of thousands of homeless people are living on the streets. Blue states are the places where economic inequality is increasing most quickly in this country. This is not a problem of not doing well enough; it is a situation where blue states are the problem."

It’s easy to blame the other side. And for many Democrats, it’s obvious that Republicans are thwarting progress toward a more equal society. But what happens ...
