So I got DAZN for the Garcia fight. GREAT FIGHT!! Was looking ahead, not much coming up, so I go to cancel my subscription. I had to sit in chat for 15 minutes while they kept asking me to stay , my only response was cancel my subscription! So they finally do, but I still have to pay through june 24? NUNCA JAMAS!!! Sound demo and video demonstration of the Gunjei Rhythm from the Garifuna people of the coast of central America. I bought this segunda drum in Hopkins Belize on a recent trip to visit and study. . The skin is deer, not sure of the wood. This drum measures about 13.5" and is pretty short. I saw and played a few different sized drums when I was there including the extremely large "temple" drums that are played in groups of three. The segunda (female drum) functions as the timekeeper and defines the rhythm while the smaller primero (male drum) improvises and interacts with the dancers. The gunjei rhythm is played exactly the same as the cuembe rhythm from Puerto Rico, demonstrating once again the resiliency and tenacity of the African peoples who were brought here to maintain and preserve their culture and traditions. Pa donde quiera el tambor africano!

Alberto Villareal Penalver, my first true maestro of el tambor Bata. I was fortunate to be able to study in Cuba on a grant from the Fund for Teachers. Alberto amd his family were the nicest folks..he told me " nosotros los tamboreros son gente normal. Aparte que tocamos el tambor" maestro. One day I will make it back to pay homage and visit your family.

Very fortunate to have found out that members of Los Muñequitos de Matanzas were in Houston for a dance class. Managed to set up a lesson at the shed at the last minute before they left. So much language and history involved... it really would take a lifetime to absorb the knowledge these cats have. Gracias poe la leccion. Aprendiendo cada dia!

My cousin asked me to perform in his wedding in China this summer so I worked up a bit of bongo to a traditional Chinese wedding celebration tune.
