About the plot...
Strange goings-on are afoot at The Shady Deal Retirement Village for Has-Been Entertainers and Public Officials (or TSDRVHBEPO for short). The Shady Deal's infirmary -- and the abandoned theater next door -- are concealing a dark secret as residents begin to disappear.
In this rollicking, tap-dancing adventure, the timing could not be worse for stressed-out proprietor Suzy Fluzy as a city inspection looms. Even in the industry-friendly, bribe-conscious City of Vermin, CA, there's only so much that can be tolerated. Especially because The Shady Deal management also operates the adjacent Orphanage for Charming but Unnecessary Children.
The year is 1997 and a foreboding, not-yet-known global calamity will turn out to have a bizarre tie-in to the troubles at The Shady Deal. Can Suzy and her resident friends -- Pelvis Ressley and the "real" Bill Clinton -- solve the mystery before it's too late? Maybe yes, Maybe no, but one thing is for sure: Tap dancing will be front and center from beginning to end at our tap dance show in Los Angeles.
The company of dancers are the stars of the show, but the cast also features Reggio McLaughlin (honored by President Biden as a living national treasure for his tap dancing and devotion to the craft) and comedian/actor Suzy Nakamura (with a long list of featured roles on TV and stage).
I'm not the only journalist who happens to have a key role. Also performing (and singing!) is CNN reporter Natasha Chen. Playing her fellow ethically challenged sister is Karla Blume (who recently sang with her mother Carolyn Hester at Carnegie Hall).
We hope our latest original show will help you joyously break free, at least for 90 minutes, from this often-stressful time to hold you in suspense, make you smile, laugh, applaud and tap your own feet to the rhythm.
Our performance model is unique. Our shows typically bring together high-quality tap with a plot that will incorporate subtle social commentary, make you laugh and even hold you in suspense. Our performers include top-flight tappers in our A Company, but we also provide an opportunity to B Company dancers who are willing to put in the work to reach a professional standard. Altogether it's a tap happening.
The location is the Nocturne Theatre in Glendale.
We have great parking -- the next block down from the theater! Use the parking structure at the corner of N. Orange Street and West California Ave. Enter on Orange, Validate your ticket in the theater and parking is $1 for four hours. (There's also parking directly next to the theater but it's a little more expensive.)
