📍St. Martin’s Churchyard - Bladon, England, UK

Located a couple of miles from Blenheim Palace this is the burial place of Sir Winston Churchill. Blenheim Palace is the birthplace of Churchill and the only non-royal palace in the United Kingdom.

Sir Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister of England during World War II and helped lead the Allies to victory.

📍Smith Warehouse - Durham, North Carolina

Built in 1906 it was originally the largest Duke and Sons to***co warehouse. Today the building is still owned by Duke University and is used as an office building.

Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D Day beach landings that were critical to the end of World War 2. So to honor this historic event I am sharing some photos I took in July 2015 at the D Day beaches and the American cemetery in France.

📍Hillsborough, NC
This past weekend the town of Hillsborough hosted a town walking tour called Past meets Present. The tour included several historic houses and at each location you could listen to the people who preserved the building speak. It was an absolute blast! Some of the spots included:
1. Banks of the Eno house which today is a Scottish 19th century art gallery,
2. Burnside Barn which has been restored and may have been an enslaved person’s home.
3. The Masonic Hall Eagle Lodge
4. Orange County’s Historic Museum with a tour of the archives.

📍The Biltmore Estate - Asheville, NC

These pictures were taken in June 2023. The Biltmore Estate is one of my favorite places to visit. Completed in 1895 as a private home for George Vanderbilt the estate is currently the largest privately owned home in the United States. The Biltmore Estate is open daily for tours of the house and gardens.

📍American To***co Campus - Durham, North Carolina

Earlier this week I caught a Durham Bulls minor league baseball game at American To***co Campus. Originally founded in 1890 as the American To***co company’s mill it has since been rejuvenated into a dining and office building area in downtown Durham. The developers did a fantastic job keeping much of the original buildings including the water tower and chimney.

📍Hillsborough, NC

First Baptist Church of Hillsborough was founded 1845. The sanctuary construction started prior to the Civil War but was halted during the war. The church has its original enslaved member entrance located on the right side of the bell tower.

The church’s enslaved entrance is not functional today and is hidden by a spiral staircase to the balcony seating. However, the doors remain visible from the outside as the church sits in the historic district.

Today the church remains active in the community.

Out at Historic Halifax today to celebrate the Halifax Resolves. There was a beautiful presentation by the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe to honor their contribution to the land as well as the living reenactment.

Spent the morning out on Cullasaja River near Franklin, NC with my cousins. The weather was perfect today to go out and explore!

Down in Ft. Pierce, FL today. More pictures to come later but toured the Backus and Highwayman Art Museum and saw some manatees!

Spent the morning touring the Veterans Memorial Island in Vero Beach, FL. It’s a lovely memorial to all the branches of the military and honors the local citizens who served and gave their lives. I’ll be back later this year to film this site.

This is the town my Mom grew up in. The Roanoke Canal Trail is a beautiful walk that will bring the history of slavery and the Underground Railroad to life.

In this quiet rural community, you can touch tangible remnants of this painful and often-forgotten past.
