A gorgeous and powerful meeting of music and image, Širom have just premiered a video for "Curls Upon the Neck, Ribs Upon the Mountain," a track taken from their mesmerizing new album "In the Wind of Night, Hard-Fallen Incantations Whisper." (out tomorrow!)
To create the video for the track, Širom enlisted the Slovenian filmmaker Tit Brecelj, making it a continuation of the collaboration they started with the 2017 documentary film Širom -Memoryscapes.
For the theme of the video, Širom envisioned capturing people performing ancient crafts, tasks that have been carried out for centuries, linked by manual labour and a deep harmony with the natural world. Set against the dusk of summer evenings, Tit filmed Primož Bizjan stoking a fire and Sebastjan Gršak forging metal. By embracing both intuition and spontaneity, the team produced an evocative film that resonates surprisingly with the title of their forthcoming album "In the Wind of Night, Hard-Fallen Incantations Whisper".
"Curls Upon the Neck, Ribs Upon the Mountain" draws upon the trio’s individual and collective experiences and thoughts. The homemade bass harp and the Mongolian stringed instrument morin khuur, which Širom are using for the first time, emerge strong from the intricate instrumental mosaic. The whisper is faint within the interplay of the band’s formidable array of instruments; but once you hear it, it cannot remain unheard.
