Brought to you by Maya Hislop, a doctoral student in literature, comes a new podcast, Whatever is Whatever. The goal of this new podcast is to provide a space for women of color to engage with and remark upon their interiority, the meaning of life, and philosophy in a way that is fun, funny, entertaining, and accessible. This conversation-centric podcast will feature black women from all walks of
life: teachers, comedians, activists, writers, scholars, business owners, etc. I see all of these women as artists in that they use their voices and their ideas as their primary means of expression. There are two motivations for spotlighting black female artists: 1) because there is a high volume of black female talent, particularly comedic, that I am a huge fangirl of and feel must be shared with the world and 2) these talented women engage with dark topics in their artwork in entertaining ways all of the time yet there are so many parts of their lives that we never hear about. Our goal is to humorously confront all kinds of big, small, and weird questions, but here are some potential samples: What do you think about God? Are you superstitious? How do you deal with internal darkness? How do you use your art to express parts of yourself that you feel uncertain about in everyday life? Are there parts of yourself that you will not express through art? These kinds of questions and much much more will be featured on the podcast. It will be like if Steve Urkel, Joan from Girlfriends, Jerry from Seinfeld, Freddie from A Different World, and Childish Gambino in his Because the Internet phase had a baby.
