This is Lorenzo's 2nd installment to our MUSINGS SERIES which is a group of demo songs written and recorded by Lorenzo at his home studio in El Sereno, CA during the 1990's with his then musical-partner Chris Weible.
NOTES FROM ARTIST:
All of the songs from Oznerol 90s are nothing but organized chaos. They came about during improv jams with Chris Weible. We jammed daily, for hours. Just bass and drums.
I found Chris’s drum pattern on this particular piece, unusual and unique. He played it often like it’s nothing and I found it difficult to play along and would get lost. That one day, it clicked. I sang along to the piece as we jammed and the voice is heard in and out, over the instruments.
When our Canadian friend ‘George Wabisca’ was keen to add long electric guitar chords and the great harmonics at the piece’s closing, it felt solid, that’s when I wrote lyrics and sang it.
Sometime later, my Italian jazz guitarist and ethnomusicologist friend Roberto Catalano came over for a visit and during our conversation, confessed that he’d always wanted to play guitar to a rock song, I played him ‘Sometimes…’, he loved it and agreed to give it a try. Like a ‘bear looking for prey’ went on attack mode and with one guitar solo take, maybe two, nailed it!
The quality of all of the pieces in this collection is rough chaos made to order. There was no recording engineer to monitor or get a level. We just turned the equipment on record then walk into the big room and play.
The compression on the drums is forceful and sounds boxy, from time to time it distorts and comes in and out of the song. The drums are awesome regardless and clearly the song’s charm. Energy took precedence and quality was unimportant at the time. Lo-Fi at its best!
John X mixed it, I then added more stuff and remixed what he mixed.
Voilà, a new song was born.

I remember “Sometimes” being a one take performance that was never rehearsed together. We had this amazing chemistry when it came to turning on and making something sound great, but this was different.
We had just finished setting mics and levels on the drum kit, and Lorenzo said, “Ok, play me something”. Voilà, this happened.
After Roberto and George had finished their guitar work, we all thought this track had something special. The vocals and lyrics took it to that next level. So much power.
