Why Classic Rock?

Well you know I hate the term classic rock... this is not some category you find at the back of the library next to classical music. What makes something classic is hard to define... but the goal here is to listen to complete albums and determine whether the album as a whole holds up as a “classic”. Let’s take an album like Revolver by The Beatles. I think most people would call it a classic. In my mind, I believe that 200 years from now, people will still listen to, and enjoy, Revolver. There is just something about the great albums--and that definition does not necessarily mean that it sold millions or just that it’s popular. There are tons of “popular” records from the dark days of the 80’s (for example) which just do not stand up today. There are highly influential albums which in spite of their impressive lineage just aren’t that great--they may have spawned a generation of new artists, for example. The record album is really a thing of the past now, but we have a strong belief that the album format is important and that a body of work captured in a singular package can be as important as a single song--actually even MORE important. So take a musical ride with us as we dig up the classics. Oh, and have fun. That’s what music is all about isn’t it? Your definition of a classic is probably different than ours and that makes for interesting dialog.
