The Retrogaming Times The Retrogaming Times is the continuation of "Retrogaming Times" and "Retrogaming Times Monthly." The Retrogaming Times can only exist with your help!

The Retrogaming Times is the continuation of "Retrogaming Times" and "Retrogaming Times Monthly," two of the longest running retrogaming newsletters of all time. We are a 100% free, 100% hobbyist driven, 100% retrogaming focused newsletter. That means all of our content is created by retrogamers just like you. Article submissions are always open so send in your thoughts and become a part of a grea

t retrogaming tradition! The Retrogaming Times is published bimonthly on each "odd" month of the year. Its first issue was published on March 1st, 2016. Issues are exclusively published at http://classicplastic.net/trt

Quick note - we had a bit of an e-mail hiccup last night during a hosting update that may have caused any e-mails sent to us at the time to be returned. It has since been remedied. Guess sometimes you just have to pop the coin reject a couple times!

Hi everyone. I hope you are all enjoying our most recent and presently final issue at http://www.classicplastic.net/trt Remember you can also read twenty-five years of back issues there in the Legacy Archive!

There's something very important I want to explain, as there seems to be a lot of confusion and assumption concerning the next step. Since our announcement of intent to wrap up with the September 2022 issue we have received a staggering volume of requests to "acquire" or "absorb" the newsletter and its assets. What's disconcerting is that virtually every one of these requests has been external, that is they have come from people who have never contacted us in the past or contributed to an issue. Open contribution was always the core of the publication, so it's very strange to only show interest as we conclude.

Due to this, I feel it is important that I make a few things clear right here at the top.

First - We are not going away! As explained many times throughout this year and the current issue, the site will remain active, e-mail inboxes will be regularly monitored, our Facebook and Twitter accounts will still be around, and the archive will always been maintained. We are NOT abandoning anything nor are we going to go cold and just drop off. That's happened too many times in the past to have it happen again!

Second - As mentioned in the closing of the current issue, "This final issue isn't meant to say that we won't ever get together again down the road or there won't ever be anything else from us." There are things roughly planned to happen down the road. There may be more from us at one time. However we want to enjoy the completion for a while and put a bow on it before moving on to explore those projects. That it hasn't even been TWO WEEKS since the current issue went to publication and I've responded to no fewer than a dozen speculative "acquisition" requests in that time is insane! Absolutely insane. And I have to ponder the question, "Why not send an article in during the past six years? Why only show interest now, at the end?"

Third - As staff move on to other projects and create new offerings, we will be sharing them via our social media channels. Again, something outlined in the current issue. Obviously a lot of us are taking a bit of a break right now but when things come up, they will be here.

Fourth - The Legacy Archive normalization is still being worked on. This has been in work for years and such is continuing. The intent is to have it complete and updated by the end of 2022. When it is complete it will continue to be hosted locally in addition to digital archive libraries. When that's ready to go, an announcement will be made on our social media channels and to our subscription list.

That's about it. We're NOT going to disappear. We're NOT throwing in the towel and locking the doors. That was never the intent in any way, shape, or form. It was to be a celebration, a reflection, and a well-deserved rest for everyone who put so much into every issue.

I'm generally pretty relaxed about newsletter stuff, because it has to do with video games - and video games are supposed to be fun. That's kind of the point. However all the being scouted lately has really left me with a bad taste. The requests are honestly starting to read like spam, right along side the usual e-mails offering to distribute knock-off designer sunglasses, and that's just not cool.

Here's to the future, we'll see you when we get there.

- David

Hi everyone! Couple of things today:

First the .PDF archive as been updated through The Retrogaming Times issue 39. I'm still working on converting the odd Retrogaming Times Monthly issues into standard PDFs, and this will continue to take some time, but it is well in work. This isn't a big thing for issues of the current newsletter as they will continue to be hosted as published, but I know some readers prefer to have ready-made PDFs.

Second, I've just sent out the last of the 25th anniversary notice e-mails to every address I have for those who contributed the newsletters since 1997. Of course, e-mail addresses don't tend to hold for over two decades, so if you or someone you know contributed to Retrogaming Times, Bit Age Times, or Retrogaming Times Monthly - please have them contact me using the Chief Editor contact on our main page. I've done my best to make contacts with everyone but again, it has been 25 years.

For everyone else - if you would like to contribute an article before we wrap up, the next and final deadline will be AUGUST 22ND. Again, use the general contract [email protected]

Thank you for reading The Retrogaming Times, a retrogaming tradition since 1997.

A quick reminder if you haven't seen it in our last couple issues, September 2022 will be our final issue and a celebration of 25 years since the first issue of the original Retrogaming Times was published. That's right, we'll be celebrating a quarter century!

Aside from everyone on the staff / deadlines list for the current newsletter, if you contributed to the original RETROGAMING TIMES, BIT AGE TIMES, or RETROGAMING TIMES MONTHLY, then please get into contact with David via the Chief Editor contact at classicplastic.net/trt as soon as possible!

If you contributed to ANY era of a "Retrogaming Times" newsletter we want you to be a part of this special issue with a special alumni-only column! We're continuing to attempt to contact as many people as possible but 25 years is a long time to keep e-mail addresses active!

Also of course, submissions are always open for anyone - even if you haven't contributed before. Just send your articles in to the Chief Editor contact. If you have some questions before sending something in, the contact is the same! Join a great retrogaming tradition as we say farewell to four newsletters, three generations, and twenty-five years since it all began!

Also a bit of a notification specifically pertaining to Facebook -

Since crossing the Rubicon of a specific number of page likes, we've been rolled into the "Meta Business Suite" which makes page management more of a hassle than usual. It also essentially snubs our posts unless $$$ is thrown at Facebook, which we will never do. This means many of you - our followers who specifically came here to be given updates - never see them. That sucks. That's also just how it is with modern social media, it is almost ALL pay for play.

Even though our publication will be winding down after the September issue, all social media accounts and presence will remain active and monitored. The website will remain active. All issues of The Retrogaming Times will continue to be hosted. And the full PDF legacy archive will be maintained. Additionally the primary Editor contact e-mail will always be active and monitored.

The most up-to-date information will always be in the most recent issue, posted here (if you can see it), or via direct e-mail.

Thank you for reading The Retrogaming Times, a retrogaming tradition since 1997.
