Preparation:
Identify willing participants
Identify leaders or spokespersons to verify important details that tell the crux of the story - the singularity / ground zero / first born vision
Identify the story and ask the right questions. Participant Preparation:
At a time that is convenient to the participants, a run through will be done of their interview or contribution. This will be recorded
as well as the final interview to increase the chances of capturing the best footage. Equipment and production will be experimental, initially, so conributors should offer a willingness to ‘help tell the story’ both in the telling and in the capturing of emotion and all suggestions will be considered that will help to tell the story. To get a feel of what we are aiming for, consider the following:
We are big fans of public radio, both Public Radio International (PRI) and National Public Radio (NPR). These inspire us to deliver the facts, objectively and allow an intelligent audience to form their own opinions. To keep the audience interested, we want to keep it interesting, edgy and offer them inspiration to do something new or ask new questions. Some guideline are:
No converting - by this i mean, in religious terms, when people experience a new found (or have always had) belief, they feel encouraged to share that kind of spiritual converstion euphoria with other people by trying to get them to convert too. This can be invasive and show a grave disregard for choice and people’s right to have their own beliefs. Likewise, we are all for strength of conviction and are willing to brave exploring other people’s beliefs in the infinite search for experience, a predecessor to wisdom… so no thought police here, just objective ask, show and tell. No egocentric distractions - by this i mean that by default, of course we care about each of each other and Love above all else is usually the victor. However, it is easy as humans to believe things we think people will assume about us. Feel safe in your self and your expression, we are all collectively probably more worried about what people think about ourselves than what we are actually thinking about other people. Perhaps if we cared about other people more the world would be a better place. In the meantime, just for the podcast, believe in yourself completely, don’t worry about what we think of you. Everything is debatable - especially now with the internet!! So express your opinion, beliefs, stories with respect for that debate. we don’t mean to discredit you if we inquire into things that throw question on your personal beliefs, sometimes those questions strengthen your argument. Say what you mean and mean what you say. - but it’s also ok to change your mind. these things are happening all the time by definition as per the aim - to explore interesting stories. You may be surprised at any moment, so stay objective and if you don’t understand, don’t agree or even find out new info that sheds light on or changes you somehow, this is okay. As a blanket guideline, we are trying to share and enjoy the discoveries that shape our opinons and beliefs, and to share this with other people we want to allow them to walk that path of discovery so that they can experience first hand the emotion that goes with the unexpected. To do this we have to ask the obvious, be the voice of the common person, question facts and voice our emotions. These are the things that colour our endevour and hopefully give meaning and inspire our listeners. It is not about us as individuals, but about ideas that shape us. Disclaimer:
We are beginners on a road that promises an unknown journey ahead, we are being brave and willing to learn as we go along. This is an invitation for you to join us. The risks we take are the risks you take and we go forward with respect for each other but with no blame or unqualified expectations. We can not be held responsible for how you feel any more than you can be responsible for how we feel. If at any time you do not feel comfortable with this podcast, you are free to pull out.
