Picked up a newspaper from our home town to read. It is full of great news from our area, but not all of the news. “The problem with Newspapers is that you are only getting a fraction of the news and only what that newspaper wants you to read” says You Post the News site owner Marcus H. Norris. “My belief is that everyone should have a voice, a chance to share their side of the story.”
Marcus H. has launched a Nationwide Reader Submitted News & Classifieds website as of February 18, 2011. Youpostthenews.com is the first of it’s kind, a reader submitted news website. The site was an idea that hit Marcus about two years ago while working for a local newspaper in Kinder, La. Marcus, the Advertising Director, saw a need for a website that would allow people to post local news that never seemed to make the newspaper. “Many people would bring in news about their family or local events and there just wasn’t enough space available to run all of them in the paper” Marcus stated. “Also a lot of news stories deemed controversial were intentionally omitted as to not stir up any trouble.”
With the explosion of social websites such as Facebook, Craigslist and Youtube, people are sharing more and more of their lives with others online. Youpostthenews.com will be set up much like your local newspaper. The website features News, Sports, and Hunting/Fishing stories that will be submitted by anyone over thirteen years of age. There is also National and Local Classifieds, Engagement/Wedding announcements, Birth announcements, Local Events, Business and Church directories.
“Nothing will ever replace your hometown newspaper for local news, however this website will just be an extension of that” Marcus reiterated. “My hope is that local editors would also use the site as a way to see what others in their community are posting as news.”
Many towns do not have a newspaper to share local news. This website will allow every community to have a voice. A chance to share what is going on around them. You can search categories by city or zip code within a range of 5-100 miles. Only posts within your selected range will be viewable. Making it easy to see posts in your area. The website was developed by another Kinder resident, Josh Richard, who spent three months refining all of the functions needed for a big site like this. “I have been developing websites for quite a few years now. When Marcus approached me about youpostthenews.com, I was excited.” Josh said, “This website has the potential to be bigger than Facebook.”
Marcus added that he would like for everyone who visits the site to register for a free account and be patient as they work out any bugs that may arise. There are no fees to set up and use the website. Sign up is easy and the website is very user friendly. Visit www.youpostthenews.com to see and use the website.
