2025 turned out to be one of the most challenging years yet for The Retro Gamers Podcast. After 8+ years and 400 episodes, my friend, co-creator, and co-host of the show, Larry Mohrmann, decided to pursue other interests, leaving me with a very difficult decision. I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue the podcast without him, because the show was not only a testament to our love for video games, but also a tangible symbol of our friendship.
After giving it some serious thought, I made a deal with myself to take a year to mold TRGP into something a little different, building off the foundation Larry and I built. The casual, coffee table conversations about retro gaming remained thanks to the numerous co-hosts who returned to the show (or joined for the first time) to chat about their own love of retro gaming through various topics. Special guests and creators were welcomed to share their views and expertise in different areas of the gaming world as well. I cannot express how extremely grateful I am to everyone who joined the TRGP family this year, so please accept my thanks.
Aside from the now bi-weekly show, I dove into creating additional content that I've always thought about making to share with the retro gaming community. Whether they were retro birthdays, retro cheats, game of the week, or other videos, I wanted to share what I enjoyed most about gaming. I started adding more retro game playthroughs and peppered in some live streams. I'm not a pro, but I wanted to share the experience of an average, casual gamer stumbling through a game, because you don't have to be the best or fastest at a game. It's all about enjoying the journey.
I was very concerned if all these changes would work, and I was shocked and humbled by the growth and support TRGP received. Our Facebook and YouTube pages have skyrocketed to over 10,000 subscribers each. Pages were created on TikTok and BlueSky this year. Instagram is also on the rise. Posts are getting more comments every day (and I do my best to respond as much as I can). I can't describe how much it means to me to see so many people enjoying TRGP in different ways. I can't thank you enough for joining and continuing this ride with me.
As for 2026...I have a few ideas brewing that I plan to pursue. Hopefully you'll all like them. Otherwise, it's full steam ahead.
Wishing all of you a very Happy and Healthy 2026 full of gaming!
