At least Country hopes no one ever said that. The writer of this blog, known to her friends as "Country," was born in Philadelphia, Pa. – let’s just say ‘a very long time ago.’ Her mother was a musician, her grandmother was a musician, and her children are musicians. Somehow that music "gene" missed Country, but she makes up for her lack of talent with a real love of music, and a deep appreciation
for the amount of work today’s entertainers put into getting a show together for their fans. During the summer and fall, you can find her at the entertainment stage area of fairs from Knoxville, TN., to Castlewood, VA., to Fletcher County, NC., and several others in between. During the winter months, she is definitely no stranger to indoor concerts throughout the area. She makes the trip to Nashville at every possible chance, to spend the day walking Broadway, visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame, or enjoying many of the other "touristy" things there. Over the last few years Country has been fortunate enough to meet a host of country’s major entertainers – and with a name like Country, most of the singers remember her if she has an opportunity to meet them again. And of course, they always have a comment about her name. Jeff Bates was quick to say, "I want your name!" When Trace Adkins asked her name so he could sign a picture for her, she said "Country," and he said "…sure it is." Chris Young seemed to like her name because, as he put it, "Hey, I can spell that one." And, Heidi Newfield signed her picture "To Country, Wonderful name!"
She’s never been one of those "giggly, nervous, anxious" fans. She enjoys the shows, and has a great deal of respect and admiration for who the entertainers are, and for what they do. But she still likes getting close enough to say hello, get an autograph and a picture, and maybe ask them a question or two. Country would say she’s comfortable enough around these famous folks to invite them over for dinner. She once commented that "Most of them are so young, they’re like my kids," While the name has turned out to be somewhat of a conversation starter, possibly even an attention-getter, or a way to stand out in a crowd and be remembered, it really all came about when someone asked a local deejay who she was, and he said "We all just call her Country." Apart from country music, Country is very much involved in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, and works with a team and on a committee for that event each year. She would like very much to get a country concert put together as a fund raiser for the next Relay event. So "If any of our country entertainers could give me a few hours of their time for a concert, I’d love to have you!" She said that almost in a joking way, but anyone who knows how committed she is to raising money for the American Cancer Society knows it is not a joke. This site was started to help Country get the word out, so to speak. This site is for all country music fans – put together by one very special fan, with a little help, of course.
