The Unbreakable Film Academy Debuts at Norfolk State where Students Discuss “The Unbreakable Virgin Islanders”, US, Caribbean Relations
I believe people learn best by means of a shared experience. From a graduation, job promotion to heartbreak; life’s most teachable moments are most often connected to those we share space with and our overall success is inevitably tied to fostering healthy long-lasting relationships. Education should be no different. Instead of lecturing students on bridging the gap between the #VirginIslands, #Caribbean and US mainland; we invited them to experience our most recent film then lead and film the follow-up discussion - utilizing the same smartphones we used to capture and share our stories after hurricanes Irma and Maria - thus preserve our history in our voice. The students’ probing on AI, and what it means to be Unbreakable was truly inspiring.
At the #UnbreakableFilmAcademy we want students to take ownership of their story thus their education and overall progress. It was especially gratifying to share this inaugural academy experience in Virginia, the birthplace of American slavery proving our nation’s most endearing attribute to be continuous reinvention. Thank you Norfolk State University and the Spartan Promise to Persist to Success Institute for hosting us.
