So the new edition VolksMania #19 is beginning to arrive in mailboxes. Only yesterday I mentioned the mag had been printed and would be on its way soon. Seriously, I'm a little surprised at the speed of all this. My thoughts are it's the mega bundles that have been sent first, with single copies dispatched later this week / next week. Happy to be proven wrong. LOL. :) Here's the proof... AJ Batista's arrived. Shop copies - due in shops early September. Oh to be a subscriber!

So, a few days ago we showed you a promising layout for an early Bug feature. These things are very fluid. We do the layout first, get a rough word count, and then set the story to fit. Finally, if the story merits more words we adapt the layout to fit. Likewise, if it's a short story and we can enlarge the photos then the design is adapted accordingly. Going forward, most car features will be six pages long.

So what else has been happening, car feature wise? Quite a lot!

Here's one we've started work on - this time a VW Amarok. It's always good to balance the breeds, and it's just one reason why VolksMania #20 - Winter 2024 edition will be growing from 100 to 116 pages. Go big or go home! :)

BTW - al these 'loose fit layouts' will carry a false title: "Looking Skywards" - better get used to it VolksManiacs, because we're going to be showcasing more of these early layouts.

Some more news regarding VolksMania #19.

After talking to the printer, they have suggest that we can still offer sales of the magazine until Friday. So we've changed the website to accomodate the new cover, once again, back from the mock-up #20 we had on there moments ago. Refresh your web browser if you don't see #19.

So single editions and subscriptions commencing with #19 "Let's Stance..." can now be purchased online for delivery in the USA.

By the weekend the website will have changed back to #20.

Please, if you want to reserve your #19 now is the time to do it.

Dear VolksManiacs,

I have just sent out an emailed newsletter to many thousands of newsletter subscribers explaining a change in magazine direction.

For a couple of years we have used newsstand as a means to distribute VolksMania. Our magazine is heavy and subsequently expensive to produce and have transported to wholesalers and shops. Why? Because we use high quality paper. We have also stuck with a $9.99 cover price, making profit margins razor thin, at best.

Costs for printing, shipping, and shop fees have risen these last couple of years to the extent that after careful thought it has become no longer sustainable to sell in US newsstands.

We've seen our digital views escalate, our subscriptions to the print magazine escalate, and our sales at newsstand remain steady at around 40% of copies sold. That's well above what is typical for the Automotive & Transportation sector.

However, it still means 60% of all mags we print and deliver to shops get pulped - an unsustainable practice given the cost of these unsold copies. The cover price should be $12.99 - it's not, it's $9.99. The paper choice should be the much thinner type like that used by other US automotive magazines. It's not, it's the thicker paper. We should use the cheaper to use print presses that utilise the cheaper paper - we don't, we used sheet fed book-style print presses because it has always given us and our readers a better printed product.

Therefore we are moving to a subscription-only model from issue 20 - our special celebratory edition.Savings made by not having to pay for pulped editions will bring a #20 VolksMania with 116 pages, and it will be perfect bound for the first time. This is the next chapter in the life of VolksMania. "Luxe for Less"

The new VolksMania #19. It's coming together nicely. Almost ready. We've crammed a lot into this one and there's a very good reason.

VolksMania #20 (aka XX) is a special edition where we will be celebrating, well, your 20th issue. We'll be celebrating a lot more... but I can't tell you what that is because we're still dotting those little 'i's and crossing those little 't's. You'll understand soon enough - details in #19! :)

So compare the pair. One is wrapping up and bursting with fruity goodness, the other is... XX won't be the actual cover, or will it? ;)

So there's a buzz in the air. VolksMania #18 is beginning to arrive in people's mailboxes. Once again, it lifts the bar higher still. But we're not done yet.

I wanted to share with you a glimpse of the future. I'm working on #19 now, building up to our celebratory edition that's #20.

So for #19 it's time to lift our game once again and tweak it some more.

Here's a special preview. It's definitely a work-in-progress, but you can see where we're heading with this layout. I sincerely hope this'll encourage more VolksManiacs to take a risk. Troy (Bug owner) sent me his photos and between us we did something special. His photos, my layout. I'll get around to the story of the car later, but right now I want to share with you what kind of style you'll be looking at when the new #19 hits the mailboxes.

If you like what you see, you have to make your dream come true. Grab your phone or camera, set it on the maximum file size, play with the angles. Move into the car, and around it. Back off and give it some space. Don't zoom with a phone. Move your position. Get low. Go high. Be a true creative. Leave me to do the rest and you can brag all day and night. I'll make it happen for you, and I'll send you a complimentary copy of the magazine, too, if it makes it as a full feature in the magazine.

So the new VolksMania Magazine shown here is on its way to subscribers. Allow between a few days and up to three weeks for the mag to get to you. Times vary.

All current print subscribers to the magazine have now been given the chance to view the magazine online for free. This is an early bird showing - a special thank-you for the support these kind people have shown by subscribing to the printed magazine.

The free online version was originally built for those who couldn't get it due to geographic problems associated with delivery of the printed magazine to their country. It has since been viewed by many thousands, and hopefully encouraged those living in the US to seek out the printed magazine on newsstand or take out a print subscription to VolksMania.

The free online edition #18 will be made available to all near the end of this month. It's only free to print subscribers at the moment as our way of saying a special thank-you to them!
