A NEW LEAF (1971)
This brilliant dark comedy was Elaine May's directorial debut - she also wrote and starred in it. In one of my favorite Walter Matthau performances he plays spoiled, entitled Henry Graham who never worked a day in his life but has run through all his family money and decides he must marry a rich woman before he becomes poor. The brilliant supporting cast includes Jack Weston, Doris Roberts, Graham Jarvis, William Redfield, Renee Taylor, George Rose, etc. The sharp, witty script is amazing.

DOUBLE INDEMNITY (1944)
Another classic film, based on a James M. Cain novel. Billy Wilder & Raymond Chandler's adaptation is pitch-perfect as are Barbara Stanwych and Fred MacMurray as the leads. Film noir doesn't bet any better. Essential viewing.

NOSFERATU
In 1922, F. W. Murnau made an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel DRACULA called NOSFERATU: A SYMPHONY OF HORROR. His classic moved to action to Germany and changed the characters names, but that wasn't enough to fool Stoker's widow who sued and ordered all copies of the film destroyed. Fortunately, some survived and the film is now considered a masterpiece.
There have been several remakes of the film, most notably NOSFERATU THE VAMIRE (1979), starring Klaus Kinski and Isabelle Adjani. It is remarkably good and haunting.
Now, Robert Eggers has directed a new version, NOSFERATU. It is stately and eerie and very disturbing.
All these versions are worthwhile.
