What kind of evildoers pass a law that preempts local ordinances, which give construction workers a 10-minute break every 4 hours? It's only June in Florida right now. I need a water break at least every hour, when I'm working outside.

There's not enough detail in this article to know what the local ordinances actually do, nor what the state is preempting exactly. From where I sit, there should be worker protections concerning water breaks during high heat. Texas should be passing laws about this. And where is OSHA in all this?

Teachers in Florida have very good reason to fear for their jobs. At this point, it is very hard to determine what will be a fireable offense. At least one clear message to teachers - don't share video of empty school library shelves or you may be fired.

This looks like an important step - open access to U.S. funded research. Research agencies will make the results of federally funded research free to read as soon as published. "The American people fund tens of billions of dollars of cutting-edge research annually ... There should be no delay or barrier between the American public and the returns on their investments in research.”
