Have you heard about Pablo Escobar?
Pablo Emilio Gaviria Escobar born on 1st December, 1949 was a Colombian drug lord, Politician as well as narcoterrorist who was also the founder and sole leader of the medellin cartel. He was named "the King of co***ne". Escobar is regarded as world's richest criminal in history, having amassed an estimated net worth of about $30 billion as at the time of his death which is however equivalent to $80 billion as of world's value while his drug cartel monopolised the co***ne trade into the United States in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Escobar was an alternate member of Chamber of Representatives as part of the Liberal Party. By this, he became responsible for the community projects such as the construction of houses and football fields, which gained him popularity among the inhabitants of the towns he frequented. However, Escobar's political career were frustrated by the US and Colombian governments, who on several occasions, moved motion for his arrest, with Escobar widely believed to have conscientiously organised the Avianea flight 203 and DAS building bombings in revenge.
Escobar later surrendered to authorities in 1991 and was sentenced to five years imprisonment following a host of charges on him, but struck a deal of no extradition with Colombian president, Cesar Gavira, with the ability of being housed in his own, self-built prison, La Cathedral. However, in 1992, Escobar escaped and went into hiding when authorities attempted to move him to a more standard holding facility, leading to a nationwide manhunt in which he was declared wanted. As a result, the medellin cartel crumbled, and in 1993, Escobar was killed in his hometown by the Colombian National Police, a day after his 44th birthday on 2nd December, 1993.
Escobar's legacy remains controversial. His life has also served as an inspiration and has been dramatised widely in film, television, and music. Pablo Escobar remains a man of prestige.
