"Making progress with ADHD is actually starting to get some distance and perspective on the actual dilemma - to see the dilemma as more nuanced and complex than an overly simplistic version like "I am the problem". Unfortunately, the complexity of the actual challenges related to ADHD can be overwhelming and we can backtrack from this new awareness place to the comfort of our past ignorance...."

Are you getting traction on the stuff that really matters? The QII stuff?
I always thought the “QII Conundrum” - breaking into important but not urgent work - was one of time, attention and structure/system development for those of us with ADHD. I’ve learned through my work with my ADHD clients and my own professional development that it is a matter of emotion too. Emotions drive our attention, our decisions and ultimately our actions. We assign value by how we feel about something. The connection between emotional regulation and ADHD is well known. I shared this in my presentation to coaches on Emotion Informed Presence at the International ADHD Conference just last week in Baltimore.
Emotional intelligence is not just a concept or a brand. It is something we can build like a muscle. I am learning as a coach that my clients and students who focus on building their emotional intelligence are able to manage their ADHD more effectively and get traction on their own QII stuff.
I am now taking applications for my next Equanimity Group Coaching Class (starting January 23rd) where we use concepts from Positive Intelligence to identify and resource all of our emotions with the goal of getting traction on what really matters.

As you map out your day or week be sure to consider how expectations are coming into play both internally and externally.
Expectations are like time or boundaries for those of us with ADHD - a complex and nuanced structural concept that is hard to conceive, create or manage.
We ADHD folks can bristle at external expectations.
We can also ratchet up internal expectations to dizzying heights in what looks like perfectionism.
We can also not see them or their impact.
When you plan a day without considering the role of expectations you may as well be "time-boxing in the clouds".

Coaches!

Have you ever had the experience where you sense there is more to explore in a topic than the client is bringing to the coaching session?

And as coach you can hear it plain as day - a limiting belief, something that doesn’t quite ‘add up’, but you are unsure how to delve further with your client?

On the surface it can be discouraging and frustrating for both parties, but it is actually part of the coaching process, and it is also evidence that you are progressing your own coaching skills.

Take a look at my guest post for the JST Coaching & Training newsletter for strategies to address this dilemma.

You can also sign up for the JST Advanced Coaching Skills Practicum where we explore ICF Core Competencies to go deeper with our clients and with our coaching.

We are one day into 'Calming the ADHD Family' and the transformative conversations happening within it. My session that aired yesterday is all about balance: how do we juggle work, life and parenting with ADHD? I believe it includes: Resilience; Self-compassion; Self-care.

In my conversation with Lara Dawn we touch on:
What can make work-life balance harder for ADHDer? & what can make it better?
What are some tools and strategies we can implement.
How can we practice gentleness on ourselves?

Calming the ADHD family is a free summit. Come join us and access the replay right here: https://calmingtheadhdfamily.com/inger

It was slowly becoming apparent to me that the situation was worse than I thought. My fingers were numb from the cold and everything I was trying was not helping to warm them. I was out on the Long Trail in Vermont in the middle of winter snowshoeing with a group of friends on a course that traverse

Saboteurs, Inner Critics...
We all have them but those of us with ADHD tend to have a super-charged version of saboteurs.
When you learn about them and see how they can get super-charged you can learn to manage them more effectively and bring and agency to your day.

Saboteurs, Inner-Critics, negative tapes… Everyone has them. They knock us when we are down. They tend to speak up when we try something new or are getting out of our comfort zones. Growth and change can only happen when we get out of our comfort zones. ADHD emboldens our saboteurs to be louder

Co-host Asher Collins shares in intimate detail the change and disruption that has occurred in the last four years culminating in his transitioning last fall.
He realized that his relationship with his ADHD fundamentally changed and is relearning how to manage his ADHD.
