As a way to avoid posting a health update, …

… but still release some creativity, …

… I am going to repost one of my favorite times of entertaining others with our imaginations and story telling. 5 years ago the kids and I live posted a story. This story served two purposes. 1: to entertain others as we draw them in to how the kids and I play games. 2: to remind myself on one of the most memorable games we had ever played.

Liv was 6, Micah was 3, Adalynn 1 and Maggie was still around.

This story unfolded on Facebook as posts, photos and “stories”. It is meant to be read with each paragraph is a new post. You understand my somewhat often posts of outdoor experiences not unlike transpiring in front of you. Read as someone not sure if this is true or not. Enjoy!

So ... the kids and I did something dumb.

We took a walk in the woods!

We got lost. No food. No water (melting snow for water)

We built a shelter to keep us safe till morning. (Pic 1 & 2)

Its getting dark and battery is at 33%. (Pic 3)

The temperatures are dropping and the wind is picking up.

Micahs getting scared but I keep assuring him that we will be fine.

Olivia is shivering and I am beginning to get worried about her.

Ive tried starting a fire but the snow is making the wood I find too wet.

We are going to go dark for a while. Ill try to keep you updated.

We remedied Olivias chills. I had the kids run around the shelter a few times to warm up.

I have added a layer of snow on the outside because the wind is starting to blow in! (Pic 4)

After returning from seeking more fallen pine boughs to cover the enterance a bit more I noticed Olivia is GONE! Micah has no clue where she went!

I told Micah to keep warm in the shelter and I am out to try to follow her tracks.

I found Coyote tracks. I am really worried about Olivia now! (Pic 5)

A little update. Still no sign of Olivia. Micah and I are huddled up tightly in the shelter ready for a long cold night! I am not sure how many more times I can post tonight.

It has become bitter, bitter cold and windy out here. (Pic 6)

Micah has begun to really shiver.

I have wrapped my own coat around the both of us as much as possible.

I gave up hope on Olivia but I also fear that neither Micah nor I will make it either.

I think I hear someone calling my name out in the distance.

I am going to venture out into the wind once more to find Olivia.

Its a little voice, very weak I hear. It sounds like ... sounds like its calling ...

“Daddy!”

I am marking my path back to the shelter following the barely audible voice calling me in the distance.

I’ve found Olivia. She is curled up under a tree. I dare not take a picture because its dark and the flash will drain my battery more than I should let it.

We found our way back to the shelter and got Olivia and Micah huddled together to keep warm.

The shelter is nearly covered from the snow falling.

The only place the snow is coming in is the entrance ... along with the wind.

I am headed back out to find something to completely block the entrance to keep the wind out.

We are going dark again. I will try to update you all in a few hours.

Liv made dinner tonight. I was thinking our usual $15 Aldi dinners … she chose Steak! Still. Steak dinner for 5 for under $30. Not bad. No action shots of her cooking unfortunately.

Happy Birthday to my Boy!

8 years ago was one of the best days but worst days of our lives.

Best day because my mini me was born! Worst day because of all the medical issues that followed for the next two years.

I thank God every day for the boy he has become.
