East African Community Media Network EACOMNET is an umbrella body of community radio stations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

Partners:Community radio stations, media production organizations, NGOs, UN bodies, inter- governmental agencies and other development partners. EACOMNET is an umbrella body of community radio stations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda and Burundi. EACOMNET is driven by national community media networks in Eastern Africa region, such as Kenya Community Media Network (KCOMNET), Community Media

Network of Tanzania (COMNETA), Community Media Network of Uganda (COMNETU) and others in the sub- region. UNESCO in collaboration with UNAIDS funded project under the Unified Budget Results Accountability Framework (UBRAF) has supported EACOMNET to roll out this online platform with the strategic objective of up scaling and strengthening the capacities of the youth in East Africa to advocate and combat HIV/AIDS through an engaging online presence. The main target group of the online platform is the youth considering the vulnerability of this group and the high prevalence of young people living with HIV/AIDS. The overall objective of the project is to utilize community radio and online platforms preferable to the youth to combat HIV/AIDS in East Africa.

2020, and 2021 thus far, have proven to be an interesting time for those who are interested in the many challenges news media and journalists face in their attempts to become or remain independent and financially sustainable. The dominant position of Big Tech companies such as Google and Facebook vis-a-vis the news media industry is increasingly being scrutinised by governments across the globe through legislative and regulatory measures.
