Huge report on the Bolts jersey front 👀⚡️

Per Icethetics, “The Tampa Bay Lightning may be the latest team to join the ’90s throwback craze, with an Icethetics source indicating the team’s next alternate jersey could be inspired by their early ‘90s black uniforms”

While this report remains unconfirmed at this point, there are a few reasons why we think it’s worth revisiting as we’re still early in the season… ⚡️

1) This season is the 20th anniversary of the Bolts first Stanley Cup championship. To our surprise, there’s been little fanfare or acknowledgment of this milestone so far, so this would seemingly be a fitting tribute.

2) Last year marked the first year without the previous 3rd jersey. Though popular among fans, in their final season (21-22) there was little promotion given to the nights where they were worn. Seems like the Bolts were ready to move on and tap into the nostalgia that garnered so much attention to both of their Reverse Retro jerseys.

3) Although the Icethetics report is the only reputable mention of this potential throwback at this point, the Bolts are known for keeping alternate uniforms well under wraps. The launch was a surprise launch with no official mention from the team until the Bolts skated out with them that night.

Personally - we are very on board with this idea. Do you want the to bring back the original jerseys? ⚡️

As the deadline approached for Opening Night rosters to be submitted, GM Julien Brisebois pulled off his latest bout of salary cap wizardry - signing to a $776,665 one-year contract, placing the Bolts roster within only $2 of the NHL’s hard ceiling.

This move required some stealthy maneuvers, as highlighted below by Eduardo Encina from the :

“Vasy & ABB were on the roster submitted at 5 p.m. deadline. Before then Merela was actually optioned to Syracuse, then added to the NHL roster after 5 p.m. To make room for him to play tomorrow, ABB will go on waivers. Then Wed, Vasy to LTIR & Bogo up.”

Are you happy to see Merelä and Watson crack the opening night lineup? ⚡️

As the Bolts head into their final preseason game with a 4-2 record, one of the more concerning parts of the preseason has been the defensive core’s lackluster performance.

Over 6 games played the Lightning have allowed a combined 221 shots against, averaging 36.83 per night. This average would have been 2nd worst in the NHL last year (the Ducks allowed 39.11 shots per game against), and is certainly a point of concern heading into the season with two mostly unproven goalies.

Do you think this is just rust that the Bolts will shake off when the puck drops on Tuesday? Or is their bigger reason for concern?

Since the 2021 off-season the Lightning have been trying to recreate what they had in the Coleman/Gourde/Goodrow line that was a staple of the Back-to-Back cup runs.

While all of their exits stung, there was a particular sadness among the fans about Yanni Gourde’s selection by the Seattle Kraken in that summer’s expansion draft. Yanni’s charisma, grit, and effectiveness made him a cult favorite, and the legacy he started with the Bolts has continued as he is now a beloved member of the Kraken, and considered by many to be a front-runner for their next captaincy.

All that to say - Bolts fans who loved Yanni may have something special to look forward to in Mikey Eyssimont’s first full season with the club. Acquired via trade last year from the San Jose Sharks, Eyssimont had bright moments in last years first round playoff loss to the Leafs, contributing a goal and assist in 3 games played.

This preseason coach Jon Cooper praised Eyssimont game saying it was clear that he had added size over the summer, and even going as far to compare him to Yanni.

“How he gets around the ice & how he's got that no-quit in him. He's kind of a thorn in the other team’s side. I wasn't sure he could keep that up but clearly it’s in his DNA.”

What are your expectations for Mikey’s game this year? ⚡️
