I just love playing our kind of music, crafted with melody and meaningful lyrics, the popular music we now refer to as 'standards'. To me that definition says it all, it means that 'standards' endure from generation to generation no matter what other styles of music become fashionable, have their day and then fade away. Herman Hupfeld wrote 'As Time Goes By' in 1931 and yet it is as fresh today as it was when Dooley Wilson played and sang it in the film Casablanca in 1942.
