But THINK, people. Do you really want to associate yourselves, a mass food delivery warehouse that we don't want to think of as mass or warehousey, but in fact on who we depend for FRESH groceries coming SAFELY to our home?

A (more than) few words about swearing, messaging, and sounding human and authentic as a brand.
I had a conversation last week with a client who told me she intends, as part of her newly emerging branding, to curse in her copy.
This will come as a shock to those who know me, but I advised that she not do that.
You can curse in person, I told her, just not in your marketing copy.
When you're writing in an effort to sound like YOU, you cannot simply transcribe. There IS an art to "sounding" like your "voice" that goes far beyond simply using the exact words you'd speak.
Words on the page hit your ear (I wanted to use quotes for ear but thought you'd get really annoyed) differently than spoken words do.
A BIG OL' F**K IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR PAGE WILL LIKELY BE AWKWARD AND OFFENSIVE.
(SEE???)
A well-placed curse word in person might ALSO be awkward and offensive, but if it's really natural for you, it will probably be just fine for most people. And we tend to let who it is we're speaking TO help guide our choice in a given moment.
Remember, you want to sound organic, but you need to sound professional. A curse in writing is just worse than it is in person--gives a sloppy impression, (uchh like TEXTSPEAK does)! People want to know you can be trusted to make professional decisions, so don't put a doubt in their minds that will distract them from your message.

You guys--some of you know I don't get out much these days. I hurt myself awhile back, and networking/live events are still a huge challenge for me. So when I tell you I'm going to suck it up and go to my first 1-day event since last July, it's because this event--a day with Ginger Snap Works in their wizarding school for marketing--is sure to make a huge difference for me. A big enough difference to get me out of the house, and into the cold, craptastic winter air. You should come too.
