On this Wednesday’s edition of City Sound 's alternative music show, Transmission, which starts at 8pm, host Paul Dupree will be introducing The Badger Band, a 5 piece folk/rock band from Kent. They’ll be playing a full band set after 9 in our Live Lounge.

The legend that is Johnny Echols, of the band Love, who released what is generally regarded as one of the greatest rock albums of all time, Forever Changes, is in the middle of a UK tour playing the album in full, and will be in conversation with Andrew McCulloch of the Even Butterflies Make A Sound blog, from around 8.30.

And Impious Spirit Productions will be in for their monthly round-up of events they are staging locally in the month of August.

New local music on the show includes the latest from Polly Haynes, Concretism and Snippet, as well an eclectic selection from our archives.

City Sound 's record of the week for this week is from Myopia, a rock band from Maldon, and about to follow up their well-received 2020 debut with their long-awaited sophomore album 'Mind Party', which showcases their new expansive rock sound, influenced by the band’s long-term favourites Muse and more recently Radiohead., and taking many hours of precise and painstaking production work in their home studio to complete.
August 9th will see the last single, 'Stardust', taken from the album before its release at the end of the month….

Essex musician and portrait artist Jack Browning’s association with our Transmission show goes way back to 2015 and his first appearance as a fresh faced hard rock guitarist. Since then he’s become a much respected British export with his brand of country/rock music, which has resulted in his current American tour, after receiving much praise from the music media and supporters for his debut album "Red Eye Radio" released last year. His first studio release since the album is a very personal song that reflects on his background and how his life choices have brought him to where he is now.

Hear the new single "High Hopes" , which is out this Friday, all this week on City Sound 's breakfast, lunchtime and drivetime shows.

On tonight’s Transmission, our alternative music show, from 8pm, Paul Dupree’s guests are Janie Price , aka the award-winning singer/songwriter Bird, who will be talking to Andrew McCulloch of the online blog Even Butterflies Make A Sound about her film and soundtrack album Wider Than The Sky.

Mark Taylor (of the Badger Band), who’ll be playing a few songs live in the studio, accompanied by Nicky the Fiddle, after 9pm.

Ian and Phil from Colchester band Hobo Chang, will be in after 10 to talk about and unveil a couple of songs from their new EP, Eulogy, which gets a launch event and performance at the Colchester Arts Centre on Friday.

Local music on the show includes releases from Lemoncurd Kids (first play), The Viral Breakdowns, Juanstone and She’s In Parties, and of course there’s news of upcoming events at our local music venues.

Latvian eco-futurist artist Waterflower (Sabine Moore) creates raw, grungy electronic pop music using plants and mushrooms as instruments, reflecting on the urgency of our planet's crisis. My thanks to guests Jo Bartlett (with Andrew McCulloch) and David Angus. Liam Gloster couldn’t make it this week (due to jumping on the wrong train) so will be in the studio next week…so thanks to David for staying longer and performing another song for us.

Jo is the founder of the prestigious Green Man festival and this year has started the new (and now sold-out) Wake festival. She talks to Andrew (of online blog Even Butterflies Make A Sound) about the festivals, her new solo album Ghost Tapes 1 to 9, her recording process and milestones of her music career.
She also has a really interesting online blog ‘indiethroughthelookingglass’, which features many rare music videos and artefacts, as well as information about Jo and her various projects.

David is a Scottish singer/songwriter who is now living in Sudbury. Thanks again for our chat and some excellent live songs. Watch out for him at a local venue near you….

On tonight’s Transmission, the Wednesday alternative on City Sound host Paul Dupree will be discussing this Saturday’s sold-out show at Hot Box with Will and Joe from the band COAST, who will be headlining the event, and they’ll be playing live in the studio. We’ll also hear music from the other acts on Saturday’s lineup.

In the first hour, Paul will be talking to Chris Ford and John Pape about their upcoming Edinburgh Fringe show, Bent Double, in August and their appearance at the Ditto Bar here in Chelmsford tomorrow, which is headlined by Tony Law.

City Sound 's record of the week. MDT is short for Motorcycle Display Team and although no motorised vehicles are part of the band’s sound, they do put on a dramatic display of musicianship when they play live, which they will be during this Wednesday’s evening’s Transmission.

Their latest release is a tale of two peoples’ views of a broken relationship, along the lines of The Beautiful South’s 'A Little Time' and The Pogues' 'Fairytale of New York'….featuring the string arrangements of Nick Squires.

TONIGHT on Transmission on City Sound from 8pm !!! It really is Radio Clash as Broadway Clash play a full band 30 minutes set just after 9pm of classic songs from our Live Lounge studio.

Daniel Bailey AKA Projëkt In Sound will be in around 10 to talk about his solo electronic project and forthcoming album, and to start it all off, JP Hughes of psych-rock band Helicon will be talking to Andrew McCulloch ahead of their headline gig at Hot Box on 6th May.

New music includes the latest from Sinéad Orme, MDT, Rob Prince and Combat Sports, an exclusive first radio play of the new Lemoncurd Kids single, and of course our full range of classic and underground tracks, together with news of upcoming events at our local music venues.

On tonight’s Transmission from 8pm on City Sound , Paolo Morena plays a “full-band” performance in our Live Lounge from around 8.45pm, and after 10pm, David Joseph and Lawrence Pendrous from the Held By Trees collective, which is inspired by the later music of Talk Talk, and the solo music of Mark Hollis, will be talking to Andrew McCullochh about their music and upcoming event at Chelmsford Social Club for Black Frog Presents on the 26th April.

New music includes the latest From D.M. Rice, Alter Fett, Samantics and Funke and the Two Tone Baby, and as always, there’s news of events at our local music venues.

Bringing together influences including Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The 1975 and Oasis, Suffolk band Afterdrive have had their songs played on Radio 1 and Radio X, and are performing at a BBC Introducing showcase event later this month.

Tonight on Transmission , starting at the slightly later time of 8.30pm, my live guest in the studio is the insanely talented Generation Feral, or Izzy as we know her, who this year is about to support PET NEEDS on tour and has bagged a place on the lineup at TRUCK FESTIVAL. She will be supporting The Brewers Daughter this Saturday at Hot Box as part of a jointly hosted event by myself and Emjaymedia, that also includes The Rebel Party on the bill.

Around 10, Deb Googe, bassist of the seminal band my bloody valentine and pursuing a solo career as Da Googie, will be in conversation with Andrew McCulloch about her music, collaborations and next Sunday's gig at Colchester Arts Centre.

There's also our eclectic playlist which includes new music this week from Cardinals, Fret Bear, Christopher Wilkinson's Music Page, Richard Townend & The Mighty Bosscats, The Lucettas and AFTERDRIVE.
