12-5-23 Manistee big lake
Well, it has been an awesome season for Jay Dauer, and his friends out of Manistee on the big lake. Most people put their boats away in September, but Jay and his friends are still fishing right now! Yes, you have to pick your days but the steelhead fishing can be fantastic with a nice mix of silver fish. Kings and Lakers and Coho are also included in the steelhead fishing. This is boat fishing from 150 to 400 feet of water. A lot of people ignore this fishery in October and November and as you can see by the pictures you should not! Yes, it’s not for the faint of heart because it can be cold, but Jay and his buddies have enjoyed an awesome time by themselves on the beautiful big lake outside of Manistee. If you’re looking for a little adventure next year, don’t put your boat away so early and take a few trips up to Manistee and enjoy stellar steelhead fishing. Jays go to bait of choice is the Dreamweaver super slim in mixed veggies with an orange back. I’ll be doing some reports next year to help folks along, knowing how to set up their lines to have the best success. See you next season in Manistee. And thanks Jay for an awesome report.

12-4-23 Drummond Island unusual weather and warm temperatures made for an amazing day on the lower St Mary's river out of Drummond Island. Musky fishing on the St. Mary's river has been very good the last few weeks. Casting the channel banks with large plastics has been best. Some anglers have also been getting them trolling large crank baits. The cold nights have made some areas hard to get to due to ice flows. The late fall is usually a great time to target these monsters. Captain John Customeyes charters LLC 906 322-2561

The steelhead action on the lower AuSable River has been very good. The mild weather conditions and abundance of fresh fish migrating into the system is offer some excellent steelhead action. Hot shotting Mag Lip body baits, bobber fishing drifting spawn and beads has been working well. December dates still available. Guys, Lake Erie in the western basin has been on fire for the last several weeks. These great fish came from the Toledo Beach area in 14-16 feet of water trolling Walleye Nation Creation Reapers and Bandits behind Offshore Planer Boards. Best leads 10-35 feet off the boards. GPS speed 1.4-1.7. Good grade of walleyes. Warmer temperatures coming if you wanna get in on this bite! 11-27-23 Saginaw Bay fishing report. The fall bite in on. Big push of fish chasing the shad up river and in shallow water. Water temperature 39° and falling with the cold temperature. Skin ice in some boat ramps in the mornings. 12 to 18 feet of water has been a hot bite. Flicker minnows #9 and #11's. Deep Bandits, Spro Madeye 120's, Deep Husky Jerks #10, #12 , have all been producing good catches. Trolling speeds 1.3 to 1.8 mph. Spend some time running to mark the best pods of fish. Then spin back around and fish them. Some pods are as big as a basketball court and some as big as a football field. You can make long trolls to find them also but takes more time to define the area. Daylight hours are getting shorter so spend your time on a good pod of fish.
I have dates available until the ice starts and then will start booking ice fishing trips.

11-27-23 Huron-Vermilion Knowing that the Huron Basin was quite dirty. I decided to Launch in Vermillion and fish a little further east. Pretty quickly after making our way out to the lake, I was marking good fish! We got our line set up and it wasn’t too long before the Off Shore Boards were dropping. We started around 40fow first thing in the morning but as the day went on I worked my way out to 48-49fow. Even though the depths changed the leads didn’t vary much. Best leads were Reapers 60-100 back, SB Reapers 50+40ft with a 2oz snap weight. Few fish also came on Bandits 80-120 back. Colors varied throughout the day with the changing water color and sunlight but anything white based seemed to do the best throughout the day. During some high sun conditions I did throw out some blue chrome, “Blue Mamba” which took quite a few fish as well! Despite the water temperatures right at 45deg, 1.8mph seemed to be the best speed!

11-22-23 Huron Ohio
Nice bonus for the small boaters still fishing for walleye. Not giant fish but on average 6 to 8 lbs. Nice school of fish, right off Catawba State Park. These fish are in about 25 Fow 1 and half mile of the shipping lane. 60 to 70 back unassisted running Dead Eye crankbaits. Vermillion and Huron have been a bit spotty this last week. They are averaging 38 to 48 Fow down east. Many guys have moved west due to this, and the bite is relatively fast, not taking all day to get fish.
Perch is scattered right starting to see less coming in. Some guys have picked some up of Catawba and Clinton Reef. There is no big fish yet for the brawl. The biggest has only gone not quite 11.5 lbs. They big ones will probably start showing up towards the last week of the tournament.

Fishing report for Drummond Island Nov 15 . The walleye bite is still pretty good. The unseasonably mild temperatures are certainly going to push this bite all the way to 1 December. The fish are moving through out the area following large schools of bait , the key to success right now is spending lots of time using your electronics to locate them. If you can find them suspended near the bait trolling large cranks baits at 1.1-1.5 mph has been the ticket. For the fish hugging the bottom on or around structure try a jig and a minnow or jigging soft plastics. The next time we chat, it should be an ice fishing report and if you've never ice fished out of Drummond island, you were in for a real treat. Talk to you then. 11-13-23 Thumb area
Ridiculous Burbot fishing
Drove a 6 hr round trip down to a pier in the top half in the thumb of Michigan. The Burbot were in the area, but lake trout have not yet pushed in. Give it a couple weeks and they will be in. It is important to use the common food source that they are eating. So buy a 14’ cast net and throw it off the pier in Lake Huron and catch Shad. Shad have a oily smell and Burbot love them, it attracts them like no other bait, Aldo they float due to thier oils. Then take the Shad and cut them in half. The head part is the best.

Then take a 8-10’ rod with 65-15 pound braid and slip on a weight slider, then tie it directly to a swivel. Attach a 3 ounce pyramid, sinker to the weight slider. Then attach 4 feet of 14 pounds mono leader. Then attach a normal catfish hook but it’s straight don’t use a circle hook. Then take your hook and put it right through the brain of the shad that you cut in half. since your leader is 4ft Long and Shad float your shad should be about 2 feet off the bottom in the current, so it’s really easy for the Burbot to find your oily bait.

Cast a couple rods out as far as you possibly can go and stagger some other ones closer to the pier to give you the best chance of catching something. And wait. It was 28 degrees out when we went, so dress warmly. Also the best fishing times are from 10pm -4:30am! So if you want to be really successful make sure you are fishing this window. Bells and lights on your rod tips is a must. I will have a YouTube video out on Johnny Trucking Outdoors on Friday at 5:30 pm EST showing the Crazy action from this last Saturday night and the rig as well as tips and tricks to be successful out there! Good luck fish y’all!

Huron Ohio 11/2-11/5
This past weekend I headed down to Lake Erie for the first time this fall. Got down there early Thursday afternoon and decided with the strong offshore winds I would head out of Sandusky Bay. Immediately clearing the channel markers in about 30’ of water I started marking fish. I made a long zig-zagging troll from there out to the Sandusky dump. The entire way, I never quit marking fish, covered depths from 30’ to 40’. I caught my six fish limit in relatively short order pulling reapers at 45-60ft back along with a SB Reaper snap weighted at 50/20back.
Saturday and Sunday I fished the same area between Huron light and Cedar Point, mostly in 34 to 36 foot of water. In those two days, I ran a combination of Reapers, Deep Bandits, and P10’s. Reapers definitely caught more fish than anything else, with the color Magic being no.1, followed by Black Mamba, Grape Ape, and Blackhead Wonder Bread, all available on their website. Bandits were a dark purple with orange belly, followed by JT Custom Bad Dude. For the P10’s, Pink Lemonade, and Marvin. Best Reaper leads were 45-90’ back, Bandits were 50-80’, P10’s were on 2oz Guppy weights at 50/70 and 50/40. Water temperatures were right at the 50deg mark all three days on the water. Speed seem to be somewhat critical for me, 1.7-1.8sog seem to be the magic number, anytime I would drop down below or get up above that we would stop catching fish. Thanks Lee Gould for the awesome info

🚤 Monroe Fishing Update: Precision and Perseverance Pays Off! 🐟 - A Report from Captain Craig Tipton

11-6-23 Monroe area
Captain Craig Tipton of MI Time Charters headed down to Michigan waters of Lake Erie. With the satellite pictures and weather conditions they decided to fish Breast Bay. He relied on his electronics and began marking fish anywhere from 10fow to 17fow inside the Bay. Once he found the fish on his 2D sonar, he set up for his troll. He was also seeing them on livescope as well, anywhere from 6ft down all the way to the bottom. Best leads were short on WNC Reapers 18ft-30ft back. Blue/Chrome or Perch color baits were working best. You could almost call the shot on which board was going to go according to where you’d see them on livescope, crazy!! On our outside boards we also were running shallow husky jerk 12’s 80ft back. Trolling speed was between 1.4 and 1.8 mph

11-1-23 Traverse City area The recent major drop in temperature has accelerated the pre-winter binge of northern Michigan bass!!!
Inland and big water are producing very solid fish!
Various presentations of swim baits and blade baits have been the deal.
On Lake Leelanau Schools of walleye and numerous small packs of very good smallmouth were sharing the same 25 foot flat. You could throw a blade at a school of walleye and the very next cast target a Wolfpack of smallmouth!!!
The majority of inland lakes are ON Right now with the same swim bait blade bait presentations
On the big water some groups of bass have moved shallow and some remain deep allowing you to pick your personal preference and presentations!!
Not a lot of anglers out but I will be and do have November and December openings
See you on the water

10-30-23 Huron-Vermillion Walleye is still being caught between Huron and Vermillion, right now. They have been trolling to get the fish they are a nice grade of fish that are being caught. Dead eyes seem to be the ticket right now running 70 to 110 with a 2 oz inline weight. Dead eyes are outperforming, bandits 2 to 1 white body baits seem to be working the best. Eye Baby's are performing well behind 50 jets at 50 back. The colors of choice have been gold chrome colors and red head. Perch is still being caught right now as well.
The most consistent reports have been around Kelley's Island 30 to 36 fow mainly the north side of the island. A decent report came in from Clinton Reef in 17 fow as well. Overall, it has not been a bad week for fishing.

10/25/23: Cooling Lake = Fishing Heating Up
Capt. Art Panfil with Cast it Forward, fishing out of Cleveland.
The cool nights and dropping lake temps are steadily heating up the Lake Erie walleye bite and today we spent a productive C/P/R day on the water.
Our focus this time of year is to fish areas where we find forage relating to depth contour breaks. In this regard, we rely heavily on Walleye Nation Creations baits and specifically the Reaper and Shaky Shad cranks because their profiles are spot on in duplicating our “match the hatch” mentality. Most often, but especially at this time of year, we will run multiples of these lures in our spread because we have found that it greatly increases our odds of success.
The lake’s surface temp read 58 degrees, winds were SSW at 12, water visibility 5’ with the barometric pressure at 30.23 InHg.
The aforementioned Walleye Nation Creations Reapers in Anti-Freeze, Hunke Hammer, along with a #7 Shaky Shad in Gold Digger all unassisted at 60’-130’ back fired on a consistent basis. Speeds were run between 1.4-1.9 mph. Fishing in depths ranging between 35-50fow.
As a side note, we did lose a Brutus of a steelhead at the boat due to some less than stellar net work buy an unnamed fishing partner. No big deal as we were releasing everything we caught anyway, BUT it would have been nice to land.
Good luck in your fishing adventures.

Hope to see you out on the water!

Detroit River Report for Oct. 24, 2023
What a warm and wonderful day aboard Jeri Toner's 219 Yarcraft floating the Detroit River! We rarely see 74 degrees and sunshine in Michigan. But today we will enjoy it!
The walleyes were cooperative in our area of the D as we were fishing between the Bell Isle Bridge and the Ambassador Bridges.
We targeted 39-42 feet of water both on the Canadian and US side. Where ever there seemed to be a hump in the river the fish appeared to be stacked on the down river side of it.
We dropped 3/4 & 1 oz jigs with Lure Lipstick Split Tail Minnow - logger perch color as well as a Case Plastic brown worm w a gold tail on a brown head. Other wise on the logger colored perch plastics, the head color did not seem to matter.
A quick 2' snap and then a controlled fall back to the river bed seemed to work best. Most would thump it on the return fall. That's why the controlled fall seemed to be the best drop for us.
It started out windy with the wind coming up the river. This made boat control a chore. However, Jeri, or as we accurately named her, The Detroit River Queen, is seasoned on boat control and kept us vertical the entire time.
Obviously staying vertical is critical in a river jigging situation! One, to avoid snagging the bottom if your lagging behind and dragging or two, if you're head is too light, your jig travels faster than the current and it losses the natural bait appeal and you're not able to maintain contact with the bottom as you lift and drop during your jig cadence.
We ended the quick trip with 24 quality fish in about two and half hours.
The trip was topped off by a fantastic catch and cook at Sinbad's on the river. Be sure to stop in with you fish and they'll prepare it three different ways along with agood Cole slaw, lots of fries and pretzel buns! Be sure to have the clam chowder, too! It's literally the best I've had!
A special thank you to Brandon Pickens who accompanied us on today's trip! Brandon is a long time Detroit River and Lake St. Clair Musky guide! He has some incredible pictures of happy clients holding big, did I say Big, Musky!?!
Be sure to get your boat out this fall for a trip or two to your favorite waters. The fishing is still excellent, and the waters are not crowded at all this time of year out here in Michigan.
If you'd like to get out this spring on the Detroit River for the legendary walleye run bite, please contact me at 231-250-8550. The Walleye Xpress will be slipped at Sinbad's Marina and Restaurant this coming season. Between the incredible fishery and the fantastic catch and cook offered here, you and your crew will leave with lots of fillets, wonderful memories, and a full belly for the ride home!
See you in the spring, and as always,
Peace and Tite Lines!

Captain Mike Howard with Hook’d for Life Fishing Adventures on Lake Ontario, NY…
Fishing (trolling) early Fall walleye in the Eastern Basin is dynamic if varying depths. The factors I focus on in priority are structure, water temps (below 55deg) and trolling speed. I rely heavily on my FishHawk X4 as surface wind speed can have major impact to my success fishing primarily in depths of 25-40 FOW.
Using the regular Walleye Nation Creations Reaper in combination with Off Shore Tackle OR12 boards, I’ve found trolling 1.9mph at depth meaning speed at depth based on the Fish Hawk has been working the best.
My technique is running outside boards clean and high , middle boards vary depending on target depth and my inside Board deep and tight with a 2oz snap.
Key for me is adding a 9’ medium action corner rod using light-bite slide diver and the WNC SB Reapers on a 30-40’ flouro lead. This allows me to keep a bait deep in the water and quickly adjust depths as need will my board continue to work my original target depths.
We are generally targeting our vast shoal structures both in open water and shorelines and in combination with surface speeds look at the best option daily. Hopefully this helps everyone

10-22-23 Huron Ohio
Capt. Bobby Greene with Meals on Reelz Charters… I took a group out of Huron, Ohio Monday morning. We made our way out to 43fow and found some great water color and the graph had some great marks from 20ft down clear to the bottom. Water temperature was just under 60deg.
My program consisted of Reapers, Precision Walleye Cranks (PWC's) and Bandits. Reaper's and PWC's were by far the better performing duo. I only caught 2 fish on Bandits today. Both on a weighted Bandit 40/60 with a 2oz snap weight. My best lead on Reaper's was 100 and took the majority, and PWC's 65 to 85 back, both unassisted. Speed was around 2mph. Colors didn’t seem to matter as I had a variety and all were going but something with yellow seemed to be a little bit better. Atomic Perch from Killin Time Custom Baits and Potato Bread from Organ Donor Custom Tackle both did great!!!
