Update: The social worker decided to give Steve 10 more therapy sessions and after that, “a meeting”. He had two of the 10 sessions on Monday Aug 28th and Wednesday Aug 30. He has had only 2 sessions and an initial assessment since being transferred to the SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility).
The following are my concerns that I am jotting down so I can remember them and get feedback for:
I am concerned for his health. He is getting thinner. Muscle weakness. His immune system weak so is on antibiotics which gives him “c. diff” (Google it) therefore is in isolation in his own room.
I do not think he is getting enough nutrition which is what I want the therapy to do…help him swallow so he can begin to drink and/or eat.
So far he does not want to drink water given to him in the sessions. In the 1/10 session, Steve held the water in his mouth rinsing than drank. He wouldn’t spit out the water either until prying his mouth open with a swab. We are not sure if he is scared to drink, the thrush on his tongue making thinks taste bitter or awful or because it hurts to swallow.
He needs help moving into sitting position. Can’t yet walk. His skin is dry and itchy to him. I don’t think they’ve showered him ever. I would wipe him down, clean his hair with wet-non rinse cleaner and put lotions on him.
His Medicaid is still pending but is encouraged to bug them but afraid that would work against him. This is so hard.
Steve fell from his bed twice since being discharged from the hospital on the 24th. On the 25th @10:30ish and rushed off to the ER to get a CT and rolled off the bed again on the 29th at 1am.
On occasion, he would say sentences. Yesterday he experienced some pain, he said, “Awwww f**kin’ hell, man!” He does experience unhappiness, frustration. He took to action flicks on the tv. We watched The Kingsmen, Equalizer 2, and Venom. He liked that one. You can tell he is trying. Has thoughts going on in his head. I ask him questions such as whether he wants to come home with me, he nods yes. Whether he wants me to be alone, shakes his head, no. He can be funny without doing much.
