The Monmouth Review is the title of the Monmouth University community's literary and art magazine, published for over 50 years. Each issue is approximately sixty pages, with color. Students can get involved in the magazine by submitting poems, short stories, essays, fiction, and drama, or by submitting photography, drawings, computer-generated art, and other forms of art. Students can also get involved by reviewing submissions of literature and art, and by working on graphic design and production. The Monmouth Review is also the name of the multi-disciplinary student organization that publishes the magazine and sponsors related activities, such as public readings and exhibitions, creative writing workshops, and guest speakers. The Monmouth Review began in 1958 as Monmouth Letters. It was founded by the Creative Writers Club of Monmouth College. The first issue was published in January of that year. The managing editor at the time, Colin M. Black, stated the purpose of Monmouth Letters was to be “a vehicle of literary expression open to all students”. The first issue included short stories, articles, plays, biographies, and essays.
