If you’re wondering what keeps SLOW going, what makes Anje write scripts and Han Hani present his heart out, the answer is simple: coffee.
Back when SLOW was still travel-based Going Somewhere Slowly and based in Gqeberha, Mastertons Coffee & Tea Specialists was the ultimate travel companion. When the idea came to “make a strangers day with coffee” – i.e drive around with flasks of coffee, and hand it out in the Garden Route a few weeks after the Knysna fires, Mastertons wholeheartedly delivered, supplying the coffee (throwback in last photo).
Things change: names, locations, blends. But what has not changed is the taste of Mastertons.
2024 marks their 100th year of existence, and there’s a new Centenary Blend to celebrate this. And let’s just say this: it tastes like home. Like family.
To the Mastertons family: congratulations on this incredible legacy you have built. From filling Russel Road with the aroma of beans roasting, to Walmer, to seeing that familiar face in Checkers when I moved to Cape Town.
From SLOW’s caffeine-fueled team, thank you for sending us the Centenary Blend. Tried. Tested. And without fail, you delivered again on quality and taste.
