The waterfront setting at Bayfront Festival Park seemed to bring out the best in headliner Hippo Campus as the six-piece band roared through a 90-minute set filled with crowd pleasers and horn-fueled highlights. The concert capped a 10-city tour that saw the band play the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., and the Central Park SummerStage in New York City.

Duluth Dylan Festival kicked off yesterday - a festival whose mission is 'to celebrate the spirit of artistic freedom, intellectual honesty, and integrity of Bob Dylan'.

Minnesota-born rock legend Bob Dylan turns 82 years old later this month. Northland music fans will celebrate with Duluth Dylan Festival, a weeklong festival featuring live music, lectures, tours, and a birthday cake outside his childhood home in the hills above Lake Superior.

The Duluth Homegrown Music Festival starts in 2 DAYS! Have you mapped out your route?

Tune in this Sunday to The Duluth Local Show, where Brittany will give you the highlights of the second half of the week (Thursday through Sunday) starting at 8pm on The Current.

The Homegrown Music Festival is an annual community celebration of the original and diverse music of Duluth, Minn. and its surrounding communities. What started in 1999 with ten acts has matured to an eight-day community-wide local music, arts and cultural extravaganza.

The Gemstones will be performing their 8pm set at the DECC - Duluth Entertainment Convention Center this Homegrown in honor of the amazing AfroGeode. 💜🖤💜

We would like to start off with the biggest AfroGeode & the Gemstones THANK YOU to everyone who sent condolences, shared wonderful stories, and let us know how much Di meant to all of us. This has been very hard on everyone. We now question what we should do, how do we continue, can we move forward? And the answer is YES!

Di sure as hell wouldn't want us to stop on her behalf, just like any of us wouldn't. As the newly titled "The Gemstones", we know Di would be furious if we gave up this journey the band worked so hard for. She would have expressed her deepest, heartwarming laugh and said "Nahuh, you aren't stopping this". So we aren't.

We have four shows coming up that we are booked as "The Gemstones Honoring AfroGeode", after that we will simply be The Gemstones. We have no plans on stopping, if anything we are revitalized by this new chapter Di has inspired. We hope to see all your beautiful faces in the upcoming months at Homegrown, Festiversary, Art-A-Wirl, and Earth Rider. We will keep you posted on all major events and moments, because after all, like Di said "This band is all about the Fam"...and that includes you too! We love all of you, and thank you for all the support. 💜✌️🌈💜✌️🌈💜✌️🌈

Duluth-based singer, songwriter, and activist Diona Johnson — who performed for years as AfroGeode — is being remembered as a powerful neo-soul bandleader and fearless activist who worked to address important gender, racial and social justice issues.

Diona Johnson was just 35 when she died unexpectedly on Monday, April 10.

I am heartbroken to have to share this news with the Minnesota music community - yesterday we lost an amazing artist, woman, and friend. She/they was a truly genuine person who had a passion for her community and a drive to share that passion with the world.
We will miss her more than words can express. And we are so grateful to have been given the opportunity to know them. 🖤

Today is an unbelievably hard day. Yesterday we lost one of the strongest, kindest, badass women we have ever had the pleasure of calling our friend, bandmate, bandleader, and family. Di Johnson was one of those once-in-a-lifetime people, gleaming realness and love with every movement and moment she was in. The world, once again, lost a great one. We'll miss you, Di.
