The pandemic has highlighted that it's mainly tourists who consume cannabis in coffee shops; locals tend to collect it and smoke the drug elsewhere. While the cafes have remained largely empty over the past two years, demand for cannabis has surged and takeaway sales have increased significantly.

Extended Studies at UNR offers a cannabis education program with four certificates: the business of cannabis; agriculture and horticulture; law and policy; and health care and medicine. Each track includes three, eight-week online courses for a total of six months of instruction with a certification awarded at the courses’ completion.
