The leader of Palestinian movement Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, had been fighting against the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip for 18 days before his death as he did not want to stay out of the battlefield, the Turkiye newspaper reported on Saturday, citing a source from the movement.

Sinwar was advised to avoid hostilities after he headed the movement's political office in August replacing assassinated Ismail Haniyeh, the source said.

"However, he did not want to stay out of the battlefield, he wanted to die in battle. He had been fighting against Israel in [the southern Gazan city of] Rafah for 18 days and was engaging in a battle with four comrades on the day of his death, a battle that lasted about two hours," the source added.

The US military could be attempting to seize control of policy on Ukraine from Secretary of State Antony Blinken and other hawkish State Department officials including by blocking sending long range strike missiles to Kiev, former senior CIA analyst Ray McGovern told Sputnik.

Ukraine has been lobbying the Biden administration for permission to employ long-range US missiles to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory. On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Russia would not tolerate any such action and would regard it as a last red line to be crossed.

"My interest had to do with indications that the military overruled Blinken and told.... [President Joe] Biden 'No!' about giving authorization to fire Storm Shadow missiles deeper into Russia," McGovern said.

The US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris lacked substance and was largely irrelevant considering that their country is going full speed ahead towards disaster, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has argued.

Speaking on Radio Sputnik on Wednesday, she said she did not consider it a high-profile event. It mattered as much as the outcome of a hypothetical wrestling match on board the ill-fated Titanic during its trip across the Atlantic Ocean, she claimed.

”Who do you think won? Why would that matter? The iceberg is 15 minutes away,” she said.

Extending the metaphor, she said neither Trump nor Harris intended to get to the wheel to change the course of the ship. America is on its way to a “total, global disaster” and the rest of the world is trying to prepare for it, she suggested.

US President Joe Biden’s administration pushed Meta to “censor” some social media posts related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the company’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has claimed.

In a letter to Republican Representative Jim Jordan on Monday and shared by the GOP caucus of the House Judiciary Committee, Zuckerberg acknowledged that “in 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content.”
