I've just received my contributor's copy of Poetry Aotearoa 2024 in the post. Kudos to Tracey Slaughter for her excellent job in wrangling so fascinating a set of poems into print! The volume is appropriately subtitled 'revelations', and I defy anyone who reads through (or in) it to see it as mainstream or safe. Certainly it's very much to my taste.

I spent yesterday morning in the Glen Bookshop-Cafe, as a storm rehearsed its act outside and the manager Garrett and a series of visitors discussed Artificial Intelligence, ways of teaching art to teenagers, Richard Dawkins, and the nooks & crannies of Kaipara Harbour. The relaxed & yet serious, open-ended discussions at the shop remind me of sitting round a kava bowl in Tonga, or hanging out in a university cafeteria in my twenties. I bought these books; they show the shop's eclecticism.
