He presented the case of Auguste Deter, a patient with severe memory loss and cognitive decline. Upon her death, he examined her brain and discovered abnormal protein deposits and nerve cell damage, which are now characteristic hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Alzheimer's groundbreaking work laid the foundation for our understanding of this condition, which has since become a global health concern.

(June 25, 1876) - George Armstrong Custer and the U.S. 7th Cavalry converge on the Little Bighorn River to corral the rebellious Lakota Sioux, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho.

After discovering the location of Sitting Bull’s village, Custer plans a surprise attack at dawn. The goal - capture the women, children and elderly and use them as hostages to convince the warriors to surrender.

When spotted by Lakota warriors, Custer decides to attack immediately to prevent Sitting Bull and his estimated 800 followers from escaping. Custer and his battalion are bewildered when they encounter thousands of warriors with superior repeating rifles eager to defend their families.

Led by Crazy Horse and Chief Gall, the fighting lasts “as long as it takes a hungry man to eat a meal.” Custer and all his 210 men perish. The lone survivor, a badly wounded horse named Comanche; silent witness to the Battle of the Little Bighorn.

The Bill of Rights is a crucial component of the United States Constitution, consisting of the first ten amendments ratified in 1791.

These amendments were added to ensure individual liberties and reduce the powers of the federal government. It also protects citizens from unreasonable searches and seizures, cruel and unusual punishment and grants the right to bear arms.

The concept of time travel dates back to Ancient Indian and Greek Philosophy. It wasn’t until writers like HG Wells and his 1895 novel “The Time Machine”, that the notion of Time Travel was pondered by the masses.

In Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, he introduces the idea that time is not absolute and can be altered by motion and gravity.

In the 1950s scientists explored the idea of wormholes and hypothetical space-time tunnels. concepts like the The Grandfather Paradox raise questions about logistical consistency and the potential of altering history during time travel. In 1992, Physicist Stephen Hawking described “Chronological protection conjecture” suggesting the laws of physics would prevent TIME travel paradoxes.

Researchers have experimented with atomic clocks and high-speed travel to observe small time effects, but practical human time travel, if at all possible, is not yet a reality.

Genetic Modification is the process of altering the genetic material in an organism by introducing changes to its DNA. In 1973 researchers (Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen) successfully inserted a foreign gene into a bacterium. By the 1980s, plants like Tomatoes and To***co became the first to be genetically Modified.

The Flavr Savr Tomato became the first commercially sold GM crop in 1994 and by the late 90s Genetically Modified fruits and vegetables were common on grocery shelves. Developers focused on traits such as insect and herbicide tolerant attributes as well as a larger size and yield. Aside from Agriculture, Genetic Modification is also commonly used in medicine and biotechnology to develop pharmaceuticals and gene therapies.

Although there are many benefits, there are growing societal and ethical concerns surrounding the use and limits of Genetic Modification.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or FDIC, was created in 1933 to restore confidence after excessive bank failures during the Great depression.

The FDIC does not cover investments such as stocks or bonds but it does insure bank deposits up to $250,000 per depositor, with each bank paying a premium to fund the system.

The FDIC also has the authority to conduct oversight and monitor Insured banks. During the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s, the FDIC resolved failed savings and loan institutions.

In 2008, the FDIC facilitated the sale of failed banks such as the Washington Mutual sale to J.P. Margan Chase, and provided assistance to banks like Citigroup and Bank of America. Although many banks have failed since the inception of the FDIC in 1933, no depositor has lost any money from their insured deposits.

Nina Simone was an American singer, pianist, and civil rights activist, born in 1933 in North Carolina.

She trained as a classical pianist at Juilliard, but switched to performing jazz and blues in nightclubs. Her music was influenced by a range of genres, including gospel, folk, and classical music.

In the 1950s, Simone began her recording career and her distinctive voice and style made her popular in jazz and blues circles. In the 1960s, Simone became a prominent civil rights activist, and her music reflected the struggle for equality and justice.

Songs like "Mississippi Goddam" and "To Be Young, Gifted and Black." demonstrate her commitment to the Civil Rights Movement; even lending her talents in a performance at the Selma to Montgomery marches. Simone died in 2003 at the age of 70, but her music and legacy continue to inspire artists and activists around the world.

The Crusades were a series of religious and political wars fought between Christians and Muslims in the medieval period, beginning in 1096 and lasting for several centuries.

The causes of the Crusades were complex; including religious fervor, economic and political motives, and a desire for adventure and conquest. While some historians have suggested that the consumption of ergot-infected rye bread may have contributed to the outbreak of mass hysteria and hallucinations during the period that preceded the Crusades, there is no evidence linking this phenomenon to the Crusades specifically.

The idea that spoiled rye bread caused the Crusades is a myth that has been perpetuated by popular culture and is not supported by historical scholarship. Ultimately, the Crusades were a product of the political and religious tensions of their time, and cannot be attributed to any single cause or factor.
