Hi! We are the team behind Maroon Visions and its founder, Dr. Ibram X Kendi (). We come from a variety of different backgrounds, but we are united in one goal: to free the narrative. Our work is dedicated to uplifting the voices of those who have been traditionally relegated to the sidelines of history and media. Through our groundbreaking stories, we seek to challenge old paradigms and narratives in order to create a truly free human community.

The Declaration of Independence - ratified by Congress on July 4, 1776 - was a momentous document that defined the nascent America.

Yet despite its declaration “that all men are created equal,” not everyone was afforded the rights and protections to truly live freely. In fact, the laws that followed did not apply to Black people (many of whom were still enslaved), Indigenous Americans (who had been brutally decimated and displaced), nor women who were unable to own land or even vote.

In addition to acknowledging the importance of the Declaration of Independence today, we invite you to also reflect upon and remember the countless Americans it excluded and commit to continuing the hard work of making this nation truly free.

Maroon Visions is a new production shingle founded by National Book Award-winning author, MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient, and leading scholar Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. It is under a first-look deal with Boat Rocker, an independent, integrated global entertainment company. Maroon Visions develops scripted, unscripted, and kids & family projects, focusing on all traditionally marginalized communities and will build on Dr. Kendi’s written work and his film and television projects in production.

Introducing Seheri Swint, the Creative Executive Assistant at Maroon Visions. A Detroit native, Seheri earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing & Film Studies from Pepperdine University before continuing her studies at Johns Hopkins University. During film school, she was awarded a Saul Zaentz media innovation grant to produce an original web series. Next, she moved to Thailand as a Henry Luce Fellow to work on commercial and theatrical productions. A former story consultant, Seheri now focuses on writing and championing high impact narratives from diverse perspectives.

Maroon Visions is a film/tv production company founded by Ibram X. Kendi. We are creating content that supports global efforts to escape the fetters of inequity and injustice, freeing humans to find clarity about their world, joy within their world, and communion across worlds of difference.

Named for the formerly enslaved people of African descent who formed islands of free communities amid vast seas of enslavement in the Americas, Maroon Visions believes a truly free human community is within reach if humans can boldly imagine it.
