Book Summary
The book opens as Livia Del Sarto starts to feel the effects of an injection of L*D. She is in a private clinic in Sydney. Her psychiatrist suggested the drug would speed up her therapy. She experiences an explosion of feelings which send her on an emotional roller coaster, both confusing and liberating.
The book also deals with the kind of impulsive behaviour which sometimes follows the taking of L*D and the care people need to prevent them from committing dangerous acts which they would later regret.
Livia recently left her husband, Martin Ridley, when she discovered he was involved with another woman. He is a complex domineering man unable to commit to one relationship, yet unwilling to let Livia go. He is in business as an industrial psychologist and his history and his conflicts with his partners is also part of the story.
Livia works as a Probation Officer dealing with women convicted by the courts who are sentenced to conditional liberty. The book deals with several cases and situations of Livia’s professional life and her work relations.
