Dr. Vivek Murthy is a rockstar. Not the kind that plays music...but the kind that makes the world better every day. He is the US Surgeon General, and this video narration is an example of his simple but powerful approach to the subject of human connection. I came across it just now, looking for a clip to send a friend - but then felt the urge to share it more broadly.

I talk about Murthy in my book "From Showing Off to Showing UP", and you'll notice there's a short quote near the end of this video about how we can help ourselves and others: "What we need to be able to do, is simply show up..."

She insisted on describing herself as "ordinary", but I can't think of anyone who deserved the term EXTRAORDINARY more than Joy Saunders.

My/OUR beautiful friend left "the departure lounge" early this morning at 105. She went peacefully, and she was ready. I don't believe in coincidences, so I'm not surprised there was a major power outage in Lunenburg county at the same time. That's what happens when JOY FLIES. ❤❤❤

I have so many amazing memories - and so many photos and videos - that I feel compelled to share them, which I'll do in another post this weekend. At this rate, it'll actually be a mini-documentary...and wouldn't she love that! 🙂

This is the original campaign video we posted for Joy's Walk, and she raised over $80,000 for Von Canada. She also received the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers for her incredible feat (and feet!) But I think the most meaningful part of the whole experience was the way that people from all over Canada and beyond (!) came together to support her cause when she had her temporary setback (that darn fall!)

It was also profoundly moving to Joy to hear from so many VON workers that she had given them hope in a dark time...and particularly from the families of Heather O'Brien and Kristen Beaton who were so appreciative that she was doing it all in memory and honour of those beautiful souls.

May we all keep JOY in our hearts.

How lucky am I ?! I have two fabulous sisters…and one fabulous ROXIE ! This surrogate sister of mine is celebrating a birthday today…and since she’s thoughtful enough to remember EVERYONE’S special occasions…I just had to shout from the FB rooftop that she is the most warm, generous, and funny friend you could ever hope for.

Wish I’d been on the Island for this fabulousness the other day! ❤️

It was a kinda spontaneous jam session hastily arranged by Tara MacLean and Alicia Toner on Richmond St in Charlotteown PEI. The idea was to gather folks still reeling from Fiona’s fury and spread a little comfort and joy to powerless Islanders on a chilly day. It was a beautiful gathering with many well known Island songwriters, fabulous musicians and one particular dancer (Patricia Richard). Those who stumbled upon it were pretty happy to be there as were we. Thanks to Alicia and Tara and all involved for asking us to join it. Was a lot of fun and a warm blanket of song on a cool day after a devastating storm.

When Maharaj-ji told me to love everyone and tell the truth, he also said, “Give up anger, and I’ll help you with it.” Maharaj-ji offered me a bargain: “You must polish the mirror free of anger to see God.
