Portsmouth! Strong Island Recordings are back at The Bandstand at Castle Field, next to the iconic Southsea Castle on Saturday 3rd August.

Closing out the day is Portsmouth groove-laden, acid-techno-psychedelic meets krautrock outfit LIPWORMS, fresh from supporting Unknown Mortal Orchestra. With praise already from the likes of So Young Magazine, Rough Trade and Line of Best Fit, after the release of their debut single ‘Handshake’ via buzzy London label Slow Dance Records, LIPWORMS have been making a name for themselves across the capital and beyond with their heady-mind-warping live show.

Also returning to the city is Strong Island Recordings alumni being London artist Rosie Alena, who delves between otherworldly cinematic-folk and avant-garde-pop, along with flourishes of jazz and psychedelia.

One of the absolute best voices in the country, Rosie Alena, who very recently dropped two wondrous folk covers via London label and collective Broadside Hacks, will bring the celestial spellbinding sounds to the seaside. It’s going to be a transcending, almost out-of-body spectacle.

Opening the day is Portsmouth dreampop meets shoegaze outfit, Jalou, also featuring Jimmy of label alumni Is Bliss, that will be perfect for dusting off the cobwebs, with their beautiful shimmering dreamy-pop

Event starts at 13:00. First act not long after.

As ever, feel free to bring drinks, food and any other refreshments, BUT please do bring bin bags or carrier bags and take any rubbish with you.

Also, it's free, so maybe support the artists via their merch stores.

If it rains off, and whilst we of course will be doing all the sun-dances to ensure that the Bandstand happens, Edge of the Wedge will kindly be hosting the event, which is of course a great venue, so it will be a mega time either way.

London! We return to the capital 28th August, after a long while, for an absolute mega free show at The Sebright Arms.

Headlining the show is the avant-garde art-rock London frenzy that is The Ringards.

Support comes from brand-new Isle of Wight ‘doomgaze’ shredders, ugly ozo, who delve between psych, surf, grunge and fuzz pop. More news on them soon. 👀

Jan 5 we have new krautrock/psychedelic ravers Lipworms ft members of SIR alumni Melt Dunes + SIR's acid folk psychedelic pop lovely Jules Smith and Pompey psychedelic outfit Number 9 .

Feb 2 SIR's psychedelic folk pop quartet Daisy and the Dead return to Portsmouth, along with support from the wonderful psych folk Brightonian Rose io and Portsmouth dreampoppers Jalou, ft Jimmy Stuart of SIR alumni Is Bliss.

March 1, Liverpool's we have garage punk outfit, Yobs, fresh from signing to Fuzz Club and releasing their debut single, as they head down to Portsmouth for the first time with support TBA.

Recorded in the agrarian lands of Cumbria, today sees the debut from ‘wonky folk pop’ quartet Daisy and The Deadheads quartet with the glorious ‘I Hate The Sea’ PLUS not one, but two b-sides, with ‘Upside Down’ and also ‘Hares on the Mountain, a wondrous cover of a folk classic, perfect for these autumnal days.

With austerity for over a decade-plus causing the rise of usage in food banks, along with the rapid cost-of-living crisis, the collective of Crocodile Nightmares, Mark Kellett, Strong Island Recordings, Velvet Candy and Vol.1 respectively have decided to join forces once again for another edition of the Interstellar Food Drive 2023, taking place at The Dockyard Club in Southsea 21 October.

Joining us for the day is noise-hardcore-punk outfit Scab, new ravey krautrock cosmonauts Lipworms, local legends Paul Groovy and The Pop Art Experience and their brand of frenzied garage and surf-punk, the whimsical Vashti Bunyan-esque-folk sounds of Megan Linford, instrumental surf outfit The Gary 7, the grunge-fuzz pop goodness of Rose’s Diary, psychedelic-space-rock riot Lytupp, 60s like psychedelic-poppers Number 9, Southampton shoegazers Burning House, and the gothic-tinged dreampop outfit Making Eyes.

The Interstellar Food Drive was birthed out of previous food bank drive events from over the years, which has seen the likes of Drug Store Romeos, Dead Rabbits, Hotel Lux, Melt Dunes, and Pregoblin play the food bank fundraiser. The 2020 version, due to the Covid-19 pandemic took place online and featured the likes of Lime Garden, Rosie Alena, TV Priest, Lynks, Jessica Winter, Ugly, Thyla, Maripool, Breathe Panel, Public Body and lots more emerging artists from the UK, as well as international acts including BADGERS, Sunfruits, Dear Doonan and Tropa Magica.

Strong Island Recordings are throwing a little birthday bash 15 September, the very day we launched at Southsea Fest.

To coincide with said day, we’re bringing back extended-label-family and Fuzz Club Records shoegaze/psychedelia outfit Dead Rabbits, who played that very day and who we’ve had on various times, because they’re great.

Joining them is Strong Island Recordings one-person krautrock-gothic-synth-pop noise machine, Michael Georgian, who’s nothing short of unreal live.

We also have brand-new outfit and already one of the absolute best new live bands in the country, LIPWORMS - featuring members of label family Melt Dunes. Imagine Traams meets A Place to Bury Strangers, CAN and Gilla Band.

Entry is £7 plus fees in advance and we’ll be giving the bands all £ after costs, because we just want to have a fun time with favourites.

Just a quick-ish one regarding Glastonbury this weekend, if you're that way, make sure to catch label alumni Los Bitchos and Rosie Alena.

Los Bitchos play The Park Stage at 2pm on the Friday, and Rosie Alena plays The Open Arms at 5:45pm on the Friday and 3:45pm on the Sunday at The Bimble Inn.
