Are you interested in video editing? Here are 3 tips to help you get started:

1️⃣ Get organized: Keep your footage organized and labeled, so you can find what you need quickly.
2️⃣ Keep it simple: Don't try to do too much in one project. Start with basic edits and work your way up to more complex techniques.
3️⃣ Practice makes perfect: The more you edit, the better you'll become. So, keep practicing and experimenting to improve your skills!

Remember, video editing can be tedious, but it’s totally worth the effort. Like anything else, it gets easier with time and it becomes more fun as your skills improve.

Let me reintroduce myself…

My name is Melissa and I started out doing photography over 20 years ago (ack…has it been that long? I like to joke that I started when I was 5 😉)

I began shooting video in 2006 and I’ve interviewed over 500 people since that point. 😮 📹 It’s only recently that I’ve been aware of how talking to so many people has affected me- it has made me more compassionate to differing perspectives, and I have a better capacity to meet people where they are at. 🙌🏽

Over the years I’ve filmed interviews with musicians, visual artists, politicians, influencers and business owners and everyone pretty much says the exact same thing after being interviewed, “Was that okay?” And yes, it is. I’ve learned that everyone is interesting if you ask the right questions. I like to think that I can help people see a different side of themselves.

That brings us up to modern day, where most of my time is spent in post-production as a video editor! 😀 🎬 I re-shape longer video pieces into content for social platforms such as Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube shorts. General media management takes up another portion of my time as keeping things organized and archived is a mighty (never-ending!) task. 👩🏻‍💻 💾 💽

Here is my minimal equipment list for traveling. I traveled for 9 days and was able to shoot a good mix of digital photos, video content and film photography for social media. I knew I was only going to be shooting during the day, but if you wanted more flexibility I would recommend adding a hot shoe LED light for night shots.
