New project, who dis? 👀

At last. At long last, I have finally gotten started on my audiobook based on my short story "The Barefoot Girl" set within the Academy Showdown universe. The roles have been cast, and the VAs have started emailing me their lines, now all that's left is for me to record my narration and throw this whole thing together.

No pressure, right? Wish me luck! 🙏

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: A New Chapter for Our Channel!
Hey everyone, Kido-san here! It's been a while since our last upload, but we're gearing up for a big comeback. My brother, Meta_Nose, and I have decided it's time for a change, starting with our channel's name.

After discussing with our friends who've joined us on this gaming journey, we're excited to announce that we're rebranding to focus more on co-op gaming. The new name is set, and all that's left is to create a new logo and intro theme.

Stay tuned for our return under our fresh new identity! Until then, take care and keep gaming!

Hey, guys! Kido-san, here. Back with another anime review.

Just finished the Reign of the Seven Spellblades anime. It's basically a more violent (and spicy) Harry Potter with a heavier focus on magical sword-fighting. It has fun character dynamics, riveting fight scenes, and some emotional moments ranging from tender to bittersweet.

As a fan of the light novels, it's not a terrible adaptation by any means (no CG monsters, either), but it did a poor job in attempting to hook a new audience.

It honestly felt like it was catering more to us novel readers, which is not entirely a bad thing, but there needs to be a balance. Something for the lifers to catch but also presented in a way to educate the casual viewer about your story, its characters, and its world. And again, I think J.C.Staff missed the mark, there.

I give it a 6.5/10.

For those still interested in this story, I highly recommend you pick up the light novels. The manga adaptation is fine, too, but you're better off with the light novels, trust me.

I've seen the first two episodes of X-Men '97. So far, so good. The animation took some getting used to, but the action scenes were really impressive. I'm even more impressed with Cyclops' portrayal here.

The live-action movies always made him out to be this arrogant do*****ag who couldn't hold a candle to Wolverine. He was a joke. But this is the coolest he's been in over a DECADE.

It's so awesome to see Scott Summers being treated as the badass leader he is meant to be. I hope this level of quality continues.

Finished Amazon's Hazbin Hotel. It was alright. There were definitely a couple of bright spots that I really enjoyed. Sir Pentious' character arc, Angel Dust being Angel Dust, and some of the songs easily come to mind. That said, there are some...glaring issues that I need to address. Prepare for a rant.

So the plot was noticeably less focused than the original YouTube pilot. Charlie's goal and the titular hotel were constantly overshadowed by a slew of unnecessary character introductions and sloppy world-building that honestly could've been saved for later. Character motivations were highly inconsistent and downright contradictory; they would continually dump info on other characters who in-universe should have already known certain things.

And the dialogue. Ohhhh, the dialogue. 😤

Yo, I gotta be honest...I find Vivziepop's dialogue incredibly irksome. Better yet, I DESPISE it. Nothing wrong with having a few potty-mouths in your cast (again, I love Angel Dust), but does it have to be EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER?! Seriously, they ALL talk like a bunch of edgy teenagers on Xbox Live or some kids who curse up a storm when their parents aren't around. There's no variety.

It felt like I was watching a Wattpad fanfiction written and adapted to screen by some Rainbow Dasher-haired girl that would've been in my old high school class. You guys know the one! And guess what, 15-year-old me would've eaten this up. Now that I'm older, ehhh.

My Rating: 6.0/10

Final Thoughts - Despite my criticism, Hazbin Hotel is not a horrible show. The music and animation are fun and lively. There are some genuinely interesting ideas, but the writing team seemed too busy trying to juggle all of them at once.

That and the things I listed just annoyed the hell out of me.🤷‍♂️

Reign of the Seven Spellblades anime dropped yesterday and it was quite the solid first episode. As a fan of the light novel series, here are my thoughts.

The animation is beautiful, from facial expressions to the backgrounds and I can't tell you how nice it is to see 2D monsters again! Nearly every studio has gone full CGI when it comes to fantasy monsters, so this was a real treat.

The beginning did feel a bit rushed, not gonna lie, but things began to slow down following the opening ceremony. Then, we get a proper introduction for our main cast and a bit of world building which stayed pretty fateful to the scene from the original light novel. The voice acting was well done and every character got a moment to establish their personalities and backgrounds.

There was also an interesting decision to introduce a certain character quite early into the story. A character that doesn't appear until the epilogue of the first volume. While it caught me off guard initially, I think it was a nice way to build intrigue for newcomers.

All in all, this was a nice way to introduce this crazy yet beautiful world of Nanatsuma. Can't wait for episode 2! 😊

I just finished Oshi no Ko and maaaan I already want more. As I write this, I'm contemplating whether or not I should read the manga.

Since I'm somewhat familiar with Kaguya-sama: Love is War, a manga series also written by Akasaka-sensei, I was expecting psychological aspects balanced with comedy and romance, but I feel like Oshi no Ko takes it a bit further and isn't afraid to explore the darker sides of the entertainment industry (specifically in Japan).

So fair warning, this show is NOT for the faint of heart, but I still recommend it for its story and character work. Some areas were lacking in the early episodes (narratively), but it really picked up at the midpoint.

I give season 1 of Oshi no Ko a 9.0/10. Despite my small criticism, I still thoroughly enjoyed this show and found myself looking forward to each weekly episode. Now I'll need something else to fill this void until season 2 (which was announced just a while ago).

Perhaps it'll be Reign of the Seven Spellblades, which comes out July 8th. As a fan of the novels, I'll definitely give the anime a watch. I hope it does the source material justice. 😉

I'm two episodes in on Oshi no Ko and boy, oh, boy, this series is no joke! Out of all the anime I've watched over the last decade and a half, this one has blown me away in such a short length of time! From the artwork and animation to the character work and overarching story, I find myself starving for the next episode! If you couldn't tell already, I'm quite excited to see where this story heads.

What are your thoughts on Oshi no Ko thus far? Do you like or dislike it? If so, why? Let's have a discussion! ~ Kido-san
