Colby Shelton got the Gators on the board with with a two-run homer in the first inning, and finished the Gators scoring on Sunday with another two-rbi dinger in the ninth inning.
Three other Gators hit home runs during Florida's 8-4 series clinching win in Miami. Tyler Shelnut and Ty Evans went yard during the 4th inning and Gators starting pitcher Jac Caglianone 'helped himself' by clubbing a homer in the fifth frame. 'Cags' went 3-for-4 today, has at least one hit in every game this year, and has a .487 batting average on the young season.
Caglianone(1-0) earned the mound win with 6 complete innings of work, yielding two walks, scattering three hits, and whiffing 11 Hurricanes.
The Gators are scheduled for a pair of midweek home games on Tuesday(vs Florida Atlantic) and Wednesday(vs UCF). Both games have a 6:00 starting time and both games will be broadcast on SEC+

The Gators women's basketball team(14-13, 5-10 in conference) will host Auburn(18-10, 7-8) on Sunday morning at 11:30. The contest, a regular season finale for both squads, will be televised on The SECNetwork.

Going 4-1 at the Judi Garmen Classic, while our trio of freshmen arms getting to garner valuable experience against great competition, will pay huge dividends for the upcoming SEC grind. Getting roughed up today, 10-2, by Michigan, will make for some better practices this week on the cusp of Florida's conference opening three-game series at Alabama this coming weekend in Tuscaloosa.

Men's Gators hoops fall, 83-76
Today was a tough assignment, playing at #18 South Carolina.
Three weeks ago teams were playing an even front zone and it was effective. Late in the win over MizzU last week the Tigers showed the Gators an odd front zone and Coach Golden's squad struggled with it, as they did today in the loss in Columbia.
Florida is not good enough to turn the ball over 10 times in the second half, most teams aren't good enough to prevail when they commit that many turnovers in one half of basketball.
Still, the Gators played hard and gave a great effort in a tough assignment.
During the last two Gators hardwood tilts opponents have used schemes that have been effective against us and you can expect Alabama and Vandy to try to exploit the Gators lack of ex*****on as part of their game plan vs UF.
And, as fans we have to consider that we aren't the best team in every game. Yep, those 10 second-half turnovers were back-breaking, but we have to also credit South Carolina's defense. There is a reason that the Gamecocks are 24-5(12-4 in conference) and ranked #18 in the country. Tip of the hat to South Carolina, and here's to hoping the Florida schemes against that 1-3-1 and varying fullcourt pressing attacks that we'll certainly face during the remainder of the year, get the attention needed at practice.

During Florida's 7-3 hardball win at rival Miami tonight the 1-thru-3 batters in the line up all homered.
Gators catcher Luke Heyman sent one out of Miami's Mark Light Field in the fifth inning, while Cade Kurland and Jac Caglianone went back-to-back in the seven frame to power the Florida attack.
Ryan Slater pitched in a long relief role and he handcuffed the Hurricanes over 4 2/3 innings. Slater surrender no hits, 1 walk, and fanned five 'Canes to earn the mound win.
Florida freshman Liam Peterson will throw for the first time in a nationally broadcast game as well as get his first taste of the Miami rivalry tomorrow when he gets the start in Saturday's 3:00 start on the ACCNetwork.

Gators All-American shortstop Skylar Wallace drilled a 3-2 fastball over the right field fence in the bottom of today's first inning and freshman right handed pitcher Keagan Rothrock made the lead stand by tossing a two hit shutout to lead UF to a 1-0 win over #18 UCLA today.
Rockroth worked out of a jam in the 6th inning by fanning a Bruin batter for the final out of the frame. And, in the final frame Rothrock's shutout and Gators win was secured when UF veteran Kendra Falby caught a fly ball in center field and threw a Lazer to the plate to nail another would-be tying run and end the game.
Rothrock(8-2) scattered a couple hits, walked two batters, and whiffed 5 Bruins.
Florida improved to 18-2 on the year and will battle DePaul at 8:00 on Saturday night.

Gators legacy freshman Mia Williams hit her first collegiate home run last night during Florida's 15-0 beat-down of Long Beach State.
Williams' mother Denika (Kisty) Williams is a former track and field All-American at UF.
The youngsters father, Jason, played high school basketball at (West Virginia) Dupont High School, teaming up with football great Randy Moss to form one of the most dominant teams in Mountain State hoops history. Jason went on to earm first team All-SEC basketball honors at Florida, before a 15 year in the NBA where his shooting and prolific passing skills earned him the nickname 'White Chocolate.'
Mia and her teammates improved to 17-2 last night and will tangle with #18 UCLA today at 5:30.

The Gators softball team supported the no-hit pitching from freshman hurler Keagan Rothrock tonight and UF downed host Cal State Fullerton, 9-0, to open the 2024 Judi Garman Classic.
After three scoreless innings Florida sent 15 runners to the plate in inning number four.
In the frame; Regan Walsh got the Gainesville girls on the board with a two-rbi double before scoring on freshman Ava Brown's homer to center, freshman Mia Williams clubbed an rbi double, Gators All American Skylar Wallace galloped a three-run homer over the picnic tables in center, and the Gators added their final marker by scoring on a wild pitch.
The Gators girls, who won their sixth consecutive mercy rule game, are also playing the tourney's Day1 nightcap vs Long Beach State at 10:30 tonight.

Gators eat Tigers, 83-74
When Clayton Jr picked up his fifth foul, on a technical foul, with 12:36 left in the second half I thought we were in trouble. Zyon Pullin settled the team down and Tyrese Samuel had a monster double-double with 10 boards and 28 points.
Would be awesome to upset South Carolina on Saturday and inch closer to a double-bye in Nashville!

GATORS Baseball at Stetson
6:30 Tuesday on ESPN+
I watched the Hatters split a 4-game series with a good WVU team earlier. WVU used their weekend starters and Stetson hit the ball really well against the Mountaineers bullpen.
Considering that none of our weekend pitchers will throw on Tuesday, this will be a step up in competition and should test our freshmen pitchers. Stetson has an experienced squad and should be 'up' for the guest Gators.

The Gators sports programs enjoyed a fantastic Friday, sweeping their opponents on a busy evening in Gainesville.
The perennial power UF Gymnastics team knocked off nationally #2 ranked LSU, Florida's #16 ranked softball team downed Colgate and Layfette, before the 4th ranked Baseball team downed Columbia, 15-6.
Florida will get another opportunity to repeat Friday's fun today. The softball team will meet both of yesterdays opponents and the hardball squad will take on Columbia today, while Florida men's basketball team will seek another important SEC win over visiting Vanderbilt. The hoop contest tips off at 1:00 and will be aired on the SECNetwork and the Gators baseball game has a 6:00 first pitch, on SEC+,

It's going to be a busy athletic weekend in Gainesville.
The successful Gators diamond and hardwood teams will as always bring huge crowds and parking and the support of rider-trolleys will be plentiful.
The early weekend begins tonight(Thursday) when the Lady Gators host MizzU in a 6:00 tipoff.
On Friday the Florida Gymnastics team(9-1, and ranked 5th in the country) hosts the nation's 2nd ranked LSU Tigers at 6:45. Florida baseball begins a three game series against visiting Columbia at 6:30 on Friday, with a 6:00 start following on Saturday, before the series concludes with an 11:30 first pitch on Sunday.
ALL THREE baseball games will be aired via SEC+.
The Gators softball team is hosting the T-Mobile Tourney this weekend. The Gators(10-2, ranked 16th nationally, will play Colgate at 3:00 on Friday and the face Layfette at 5:30 on Friday. Florida will play Layfette on Saturday at 12:30 and meet Colgate at 3:00.
On Sunday morning the Florida diamond girls will play UIC at 11:00.
A highlight over the weekend will be a home hoop tilt for UF as the surging Gators(18-8) will host Vanderbilt as Coach Goldens Gators seek a top-four conference finish and an invaluable double-bye when SEC tourney slots are reached.

Big12 Commisioner Brett Yormark has announced that beginning next season the men's basketball schedule will include 20 conference games. The Big12 women's teams will continue to play an 18 game format.

Florida freshman Liam Peterson got his feet wet, going three innings with 1 allowed hit, walking one and recording seven strikeouts in Florida's 10-0 mercy rule win vs North Florida.
Jack Caglianone drilled a 2-run homer and a 2-run double and drew a pair of walks.
Cade Curland had a 4-for-5 night, hitting a double and scoring a run.
The Gators and North Florida play again tomorrow night as the teams travel to Gainesville for a 6:30 start.

The Mountaineers rallied from a 3-0 early deficit and used some Crazy-Mazey ball to score two runs on a 9th inning sac-bunt to down Stetson 7-5 this afternoon.
The Mountaineers and Hatters each won a pair of games in Deland to start the 2024 hardball campaign.

With a lack of production from his starting post players, Florida basketball coach Todd Golden went to his bench and a pair of freshmen (6'9" forward Alex Condon and 6'11 forward Tomas Haugh, respectively) delivered! Haugh( #10)tossed in a career high 17 points and Condon added 10 markers. The freshmen joined a trio of Gators in double figures and the Gators tripped rival Georgia, 88-82, in Athens this afternoon.
GatorsBytes: During an overtime win against these same Bulldogs three weeks ago the Gators committed 19 turnovers. In today's series clinching victory Florida turned the ball over only 8 times.
The Gators free throw woes from earlier in the season seem to be corrected. Today the guest Gators canned 21 of 26 attempts at the line.
Point guard Walter Clayton Jr led the winners with 21 points.
