This weekend 'The Letters' and 'DaDa Letters' will be featured in a 'Carte blanche' event at the Aubette 1928 in Strasbourg, a building known as the Gesamtkunstwerk of Modernism. Actress Laura Lienhard and artist Céline Manz will bring to life the correspondence between Sophie Taeuber and Hans Arp in a dadaist performative lecture. Manz will also speak extensively about her research on Sophie Taeuber's role in the creation of the Aubette. Our publication 'The Letters' will be on display in the Foyer-Bar of the Aubette, the last still preserved room designed by Taeuber at the Aubette 1928.

The bilingual poster edition of Sophie Taeuber‘s essay ‚Bemerkungen über den Unterricht im ornamentalen Entwerfen. / Remarks on the Instruction of Ornamental Design.‘ is currently available at the shop of Kunsthaus Baselland, the librairie of the Centre culturel suisse as well as the shop of the Kunstmuseum Basel. The edition not only provides a rare insight in Sophie Taeuber's working process, it is also one of very few texts published by a female artist in the 1920s, an era otherwise dominated by published texts and manifests from male artists.
Taeuber's Essay 'Remarks on the Instruction of Ornamental Design' was published in 1922. For the first time available as an individual print, the text, one of only two texts published by the artist during her lifetime, offers an exciting insight into Taeuber's working and teaching methods. The bilingual edition German / English is presented in the form of typographic ornaments that are based on Taeuber's work.

Remembering friends • Six years ago today we invited dear Xavier Fernández Fuentes to contribute to what used to be the project space STUDIO 47. He came up with the wonderful idea to make a limited edition scarf as a collaboration with his publishing imprint Centerfold Editions; KAI CB-2 was an exact reproduction of a cutting mat manufactured by the Japanese brand KAI. It was beautifully silkscreened on silk with a matchting, equally beautiful box and, no surprise, the edition was sold out almost immediately.
It‘s always been such a pleasure to spend time with this talented, kind and funny human
being, and we‘re grateful that our paths crossed 💙 We miss you,

* Out of print * Meret Oppenheim: ‚Rede anlässlich der Verleihung des Kunstpreises der Stadt Basel‘ ('Acceptance speech for the art prize of the city of Basel') from 1975. In this speech she famously said that 'Freedom is not a given, you have to take it'. For the first time it is published alongside an undated, subsequently written annex by Oppenheim where she expands on some of her concerns formulated within the speech which I found during research in the Swiss Literary Archives. I'm deeply thankful to Lisa Wenger - Meret Oppenheim's niece - for her generosity that made this project possible. She administers her aunt's estate with much dedication and her work is a great example of how to successfully keep an artist's legacy alive while respecting the core of their practice and persona.
