Demon would like to thank Denise Townsend for reviewing Chris Lund's new record, Indian Summer! It's a refreshing and personal perspective -
Here is her review:
"I was in a musical funk when an old friend recommended Chris Lund’s new solo album Indian Summer. First of all, catchy title! Then I heard the first chord of “Everything is Fine”. Imagine being on top of an endless landscape of mountains, a 360-degree panoramic view with you in the middle. That’s what it felt like – that smooth, edgy guitar pulling at your chest followed by a voice that feels like it’s coming from everywhere and nowhere. Cut to “Mary Jane and Guarantee.” I’m in Hamburg, Germany, sitting in a circle of strangers drinking beer. We don’t understand a single thing we are saying to each other but it doesn’t matter because it’s about brotherhood and music.
Next we have “Down the Line,” and BAM! I’m running from the cops after stealing a box of Twinkies from the local Safeway and jumping on my getaway horse (yes it was actually a horse because I was too young to drive). Then comes “Time Runnin.” I’m cruising the strip with my 78 Mustang on the way to my hot boyfriend’s house, hell yeah! The beautiful melancholy of “Please Me” takes me to my young adult era, struggling against the headwinds of life.
What to say about “Military Girl”. I dunno, but by the end of that song I just wanted to be her. “Killing with Kindness” is a straight groove with a beautiful web of guitar, and “Where you Goin” is the perfect come down back to earth.
To bring it full circle, Indian Summer isn’t just an album that was painstakingly plunked out to perfection. It’s an experience - A journey through the looking glass into every place in your life that was pure and full of magic."
