Sharing the beautiful photos from the June 9 world premiere of KALIPAY AND GAMAY: THE MUSICAL, presented by the Iskwelahang Pilipino of Boston. It was a wonder to see the story bloom on stage in full color. The kids embodied the characters so beautifully.

Much gratitude again to IP Boston and to everyone who supported this play. This production was a labor of love from the whole school. From building the sets, creating costumes, makeup, fundraising, choreographing the dances, making the props—the students, parents, and teachers make it look so professional.

I don't think I'll ever forget the feeling of seeing one of my books come to life on a stage, the characters walking around and singing "What if being weird is normal?" 🙌🏼 🎯

ANNOUNCING KALIPAY AND GAMAY: THE MUSICAL 📣✨🎶🇵🇭🦇

Been sitting on this one a looong time...I don't have words to express my melty inner emo about this collaboration with the Iskwelahang Pilipino of Boston , one of the oldest Filipino schools in the United States. 🫠🥰💃🏽 Gigil, delight, joy, disbelief at seeing kids workshopping your story and auditioning to play the characters in your book.

IP Boston and Sari-Sari Storybooks are thrilled to announce the musical adaptation of KALIPAY AND THE TINIEST TIKTIK, which will be performed by the students of in two weeks.

Just before the Covid-19 pandemic, IP Boston reached out to me about possibly developing a rondallia musical based on a Sari-Sari Storybooks. Through the pandemic, we settled on KALIPAY as the story, and for four years, we have been slowly developing the script, emotional maps, music, lyrics, production, and a uniquely Filipino pedagogy for the kids as curriculum and preparation for the community play. I cannot wait for the public to see how adorable and talented the students are.

His only desire is to own the magical, puffy clouds in the sky. When strange men come to the village and offer to grant his wish, Jalal finally learns what the lake means to his people.

Via the Endangered Languages Project: "Calling all creators making digital content in Indigenous and minoritized languages! We are excited to be partnering with Smithsonian Folklife on the 2024 Language Lodge program, a free six-week workshop series to connect, support, and inspire people working to promote their languages online.
The program is free and open to creators anywhere in the world. Participants will get to collaborate to create social media challenges in their languages. Sessions will run between March 12 and April 18. Learn more and register: https://folklife.si.edu/news-and-events/2024-language-lodge"

Our Language Vitality Initiative invites Indigenous and minoritized language content creators to the 2024 Language Lodge, a free six-week series of virtual workshops and challenges to co-create media with language communities around the world.

The Language Lodge is an ongoing program in which language content creators design and produce experimental online projects to support relationship building across the broad expanse of online language users.
