Gabriela Mistral was a Chilean poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945.
Mistral's poetry is known for its beauty, its emotional intensity, and its themes of love, loss, and motherhood. Her most famous works include Sonetos de la Muerte (Sonnets of Death), Tala, Lagar, and Desolación (Desolation).
Mistral was a strong advocate for women's rights and social justice. On this Earth day we honour its gifts in reverence with an extract of Gabriela's poem "La Tierra":
Indian child, if you are tired,
you lie down on the Earth,
and the same if you are happy,
my son, play with her...
Marvelous things are heard
on the Indian drum of the Earth:
you hear the fire that rises and falls
seeking the sky, and it does not rest.
It rolls and rolls, you hear the rivers
in countless waterfalls.
You hear the animals moo;
you hear the ax eating the jungle.
You hear Indian looms clinking.
You hear threshing floors, you hear festivities.
Where the Indian is calling it,
the Indian drum answers him,
and it plays near and far,
like one who flees and returns...

Last year we had the opportunity to meet incredible musas y creadoras, in person or online, their articles inspired many other women around the world. In this 2024, beyond the exposure, this platform calls us to unity, and to continue thinking: how we can unite our muses even more, how we can make it more participatory, how we can contribute more and more.
This led to the organic transformation of Musas y Creadoras, from being an exhibition platform to being a diaspora UNITED by our rich creative heritage, our origins, which transcends geographical, linguistic and national borders, celebrating our mother earth, our work and each other.
I present to you, NATIVAS.
SAVE THE DATE
Our very first NATIVAS GATHERING will be on March 1st at 8pm CET. We have very very special guests, our Natives diaspora will be presenting amazing projects and our new site will be revealed there.
