The following is my review of RuPaul's Drag Race Live in Las Vegas but be warned, it does contain very colorful adult language appropriate to the story. Hopefully it will post in the proper format. Hope you enjoy!

Making it Werk
A Legacy Goes Live
By Colette Finney
Holding off 35 days to post this review is a drop in the ocean compared to waiting 35 long years to see RuPaul Charles’ career swivel full circle. From performing as a go-go dancer who lip syncs to Crystal Gayle at the corner store in 1988 to being a multi-hyphenate phenomenon with only one of her side hustles directing a group of performers, Mama Ru has altered the course of herstory in countless ways.
Never one to rest on her charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to achieve greatness, Charles generates innovation like her p***y is on fire. And the newest creation, RuPaul’s Drag Race Live, burns but in a good way. Faithful fans of any perfectly tucked and plucked version of RuPaul’s Drag Race may be wondering how the renowned qweens can translate all that extra onto a bare stage. Henny, worry no more.
After initially being postponed due to Covid, Live currently has a firm grasp on a residency at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada with a full tour in the works. Produced by World of Wonder and Voss Events, the exhilarating r***e is based on the original format and will leave viewers gagging all the way home.
Following a rotating line up, this evening’s “Las Vegas realness” featured Jada Essence Hall, Jorgeous, Coco Montrese, and UK winner Lawrence Chaney slaying all night. With RuPaul on video spilling some tasty tea, Asia O’Hara emceed the house down, with all oozing next level fierceness. Toss in a sizzling pit crew hotter than a marshmallow dropped in a bonfire and you have a blazing spectacle of fabulosity.
“I think the live show is better than the televised one as it provides visual context and excitement to the concept with audience interaction and support,” said ticketholder Erik Chazin. “I was emotionally touched by how self-love positive the show was with performances that were iconic, smart, intricate, and beautiful.”
Directed by RuPaul and choreographer Jamal Sims, the ladies vie for “Best Drag Queen” while slaying the stage painted for the Gods. Category is…sick’ning – in custom couture, backed by innovative staging and electrifying lights, each one unleashed a wealth of unparalleled confidence and swagger in their own way. Executing impeccable dance moves to a score that included RuPaul favorites and well-known hits, the five went above and beyond sissy’ing that walk.
However, prep for the performances is as individual as their personas. Lawrence Chaney prefers to start the engine with passion and sugar free Red Bulls in order to dust the runway.
“I believe in over rehearsing to make sure everything’s perfect,” she confessed. “Oh, a lot of anxiety, blood, sweat, tears and duct tape!”
Yet no matter how much practice is done beforehand, there is bound to be a wig snafu or two according to Chaney, but the hard work pays off in the end.
“I remember performing to a sold-out crowd of 3000 people in my hometown of Glasgow, Scotland, with my mum and sister in the crowd too,” said Chaney. “As I was about to walk on stage the crowd chanted my name as a voiceover of RuPaul introduced me - that was pretty amazing!”
Apparently, the amount of prep can prove to be advantageous when participating in THE definitive lip sync smackdown for the crown. A standout in the competition was Chaney herself, capturing each lyric of “This is Me” from The Greatest Showman with precision and panache, captivating all. And let’s face it. There is nothing better than a wicked reveal to which Chaney certainly is most malevolent. However, revealing the winner, I will not do.
“The song This is Me was my favorite because it has a wonderful lesson and aura – that this is who I am and who I am is beautiful,” said ticketholder Erik Chazin. “And as Ru states in the show, “It is not an accident you are here.””
While both naughty and fun, there were also plenty of chances for attendees to soak up all that empowerment, and love. Besides the ever-familiar straight male being pulled onstage, the positive energy of the entire cast seemed to permeate the cells of every human in a seat, leaping to their feet for a standing ovation upon conclusion. Ushers even got in on the act by escorting the drag queens off the stage and collecting the assortment of discarded clothing from the steps.
Experience the full eleganza extravaganza in person as these bi***es are the only ones truly putting the show in showgirl. RuPaul’s Drag Race Live, shantay you stay. Until the end of time.
“Each show is unique and stunning, which is why I went twice in four days,” added Chazin. “I will come back, hungry for more!”
