ADHD in Women
You are not crazy.
You may have ADHD 😎
Women are OFTEN misdiagnosed.
They may feel like they are constantly behind or failing to meet expectations, which can lead to feelings of anxiety and/or depression.
It's one of the reasons why women are 4x more likely to be on an antidepressant compared to a man 🤯
PS: If you're on an antidepressant and it's not working, ladies... consider ADHD 🤓 It doesn't necessarily mean you need medication, it means you need to understand how your brain works 🔥
I *thought* what I was feeling for so long was... normal.
That life, marriage, kids, and work was just a lot 🤪
Nope.
Our world, schools, and workplaces (even our own homes because we've been masking for so long... 43 years to be exact) are not set up to accommodate those of us with ADHD.
We're sabotaging ourselves every single day due to the expectations of everyone and everything around us, trying so badly to fit into a neurotypical box or set of standards that don't mesh with how we innately operate.
Worse, we project the same BS and standards onto our kids when many of them, A LOT more of them, are also dealing with ADHD 😳
We've learned to hide, however, our nervous system knows better, doesn't it? Many individuals with underlying ADHD can develop other health issues due to the stress of masking or trying to fit in where one is not fully accepted or understood.
Overall, the emotional toll of ADHD in women can be significant and can impact self-esteem, relationships, and overall well-being.
✅ Do you like to say yes to all the things?
✅ Have a strong sense of social justice?
✅ Struggle to ever find "work - life balance"?
✅ Been labeled difficult along the way?
✅ A rule breaker in order to find better pathways?
There's a reason and it's backed by science💡
Check out the most recent episode of The Mama Trauma Barbie Podcast with my dear friend and expert on the subject, Nancy Hummel SHRM-SCP, founder of Neuro-osity, as we
How do we get more girls in STEM?
"You want to be somewhere where you are welcomed."
And not just in STEM but at work, in politics, and in entrepreneurship.
The research that Dr. Rupali Chandar, Professor of Astrophysics at The University of Toledo, mentions below begs us to stop and acknowledge something we refuse to embrace.
👩🚀 Men and women are different.
🚀 They think different.
🪐 They act different.
👽 They have different needs.
Women have been shoving themselves into a 📦 for 40 years trying to work and act like men in the workforce.
It's not working.
Not even a little and it's impacting why we still don't have more women at the table.
Men run 80% of all industries with leadership ranking positions... why are women being tasked then with making the changes to improve our workplaces, attend all the empowerment and HR events, to only bring back recommendations that fall on deaf ears because male leadership will not do their due diligence to learn, grow, and advance their workforce based on women now making up half of it?
Women are bringing the solutions, men don't understand the problem.
🗣️ Women are not men.
Our recommendations are being heard through a one dimensional lense, a male perspective.
It's time for male leadership to better understand how opening the door to equality within their hearts, homes, businesses, corporations, and communities helps foster a future full of potential for all humans.
👩🏫 Girls determine in middle school whether they are in or out on where their value sits, especially in science related fields.
📚 Guys... what's the message you are sending our youth, in or out of the classroom?
🤔 How are you sending that message now... at home and at work?
🤯 Are you a safe space to land or are you consciously (or subconsciously) adhering to the oldschool 1960's mentality of... "Girls can't get a PhD."
👀 Your daughters... and your sons are watching.
We're not only

Hey, parents 🗣️
I've noticed a trend over the past year as part of opening a family wellness center that could help you and your family during a crisis moment 🏥
That's why I started this pod... knowledge IS 💥
77% of college students in 🇺🇸 are experiencing severe to moderate psychological distress 😳
Parents are SCRAMBLING to help their young adult in real time because they no longer have legal rights on behalf of their kid. It doesn't matter whether they live with you, they are on your "payroll" 💳, or whatever the circumstance might be.
They are 18.
✍️ Signing a HIPAA medical release form when a child turns 18 can be crucial for ensuring that parents are able to stay informed and involved in their child's healthcare, including mental health care.
📄 This form allows healthcare providers to share important information with parents, providing a safety net of support for the young adult as they navigate their mental health journey.
🩷 By signing a HIPAA medical release form, your child can maintain a strong support system and ensure that their loved ones are able to advocate for their best interests in times of need.

The 💥 Of Genomics 🧬
A lot has changed in the past five years.
A LOT.
Most food isn't even food anymore 😳
The amount of chemicals in our food, air, water, and products are triggering our bodies to react differently and causing dis-ease ⚠️
It's why 1 in 2 kiddos have a chronic illness in 🇺🇸 and why youth mental health issues are through the roof 📈
Good news. We can control and fix this by the choices we make and with NEW testing like genomics 👌
Genomics give us the exact roadmap as to what's going on at a cellular level and can give us the exact coordinates on where to go next and what to do for not only short term relief but long term prevention of disease 🔥🔥🔥
For children and adults stuck in the maze of chronic illness and auto immune, this testing and investment can save time, money, and maybe most importantly, sanity by going straight to YOUR unique molecular make up.
Join me and the brilliant Dr. Sharon Hausman-Cohen from @intellxxdna as she explains the power of genomics in this most recent episode on the #MamaTraumaBarbiePodcast.

Let me show you what a real hero looks like. Meet Emilia Metzel 🦸🏼♀️ She took a catastrophic situation and turned it into a runway to help others 🛫 You can make a positive impact today by following her weekly series @BeyondPANS on your favorite social platform. It's my birthday and this would be the GREATEST 🎁... #awareness. With suicide as the second leading cause of death in children age 9 to 24 (CDC), friends, this issue is a direct correlation being completely missed by our society. #PANS and #PANDAS diagnosis are not well understood by society because many parents don't talk about them out loud. It's not believable what these kids and what these families go through until you or someone you know has experienced it. 🗣️ It's time to change that. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) is a medical condition that is characterized by the sudden onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), tics, anxiety, and mood swings in children. PANS is believed to be triggered by infections, environmental factors, or other immune system issues. Emilia has taken her experience, her skill sets, and her passion to educate more families so they can get connected to the help they need SOONER. If you believe your child is struggling with an underlying chronic condition like PAN(DAS), we can help you get aligned with the right providers, testing, and support at The Joss District, Inc. 🌱Listen to the full episode and help us raise awareness around these debilitaing childhood epidemics that are on a concerning and dramatic rise. Your efforts could be lifesaving... 🛟 FULL EPISODE ➡️ https://linktr.ee/MamaTraumaBarbie
"Wait... is this normal?" Have you ever wondered if your child's behavior is typical or if something else is going on? Been there. It's why I started the Mama Trauma Barbie podcast... childhood epidemics are on a DRAMATIC rise and parents are being left high and dry to maneuver this on their own with zero guidance or training. It's why I'm so excited to introduce you to my next guest, @EmiliaMetzel, who started @beyondPANS as a way to educate the 🌎 about #PANS and #PANDAS. This debilitating condition is not well understood by most medical providers due to the pace it has progressed over the past ten years, making it crucial that parents understand the signs and symptoms as onset can be abrupt and heartbreaking. Researchers suspect that PANS and PANDAS result from infections or environmental triggers that cause abnormal activation of the immune system, which then attacks neuronal cells in the brain (Neuroimmune Foundation). Make sure to follow her new initiative @beyondpans as Emilia collides art and science with her unbelievable illustrations to help educate more families about this disease and how to overcome it 💪 Listen to the full episode of the #MamaTraumaBarbie podcast to hear more about Emilia's journey with her two children who experienced PANS and how it could help you or a loved one gain the insights you need. 🎙️➡️ https://linktr.ee/MamaTraumaBarbie
I realized 10 years ago through one of those fancy career assessments that I was a disruptor.. a "maverick". After maneuvering life with a child dealing with a complex health issue, I now see exactly why that trait was going to be needed. Because our healthcare system is broke. Not only is it broke, it's costing youth their lives. Not on my watch ⚠️ This needs fixed yesterday. PANS and PANDAS are autoimmune conditions impacting children at an alarming rate. The symptoms that come with these conditions are often abrupt and extremely disruptive for not only the child but the whole family unit 💣💥PANS & PANDAS are often misdiagnosed and misunderstood, creating a massive gap in diagnosis and treatment = years of trauma for the child and family 😢 It's why I created #TheJossDistrict. We need more parents, providers, and entrepreneurs with real life experience reshaping the way we currently deliver healthcare. It's why #FemTech and #FamTech are on the rise... we need better delivery systems. Based on the severity of symptoms and the lack of knowledge by most providers... there is a dangerous gray area where parents are left to navigate these difficult childhood epidemics on their own, behind closed doors. We can do better. We must. WE ARE 💪Over the next few months, I'll be introducing some of the leading experts and pioneers working to change the game in healthcare throughout Season 2 of the @mama_trauma_barbie podcast 🩷✨Learn more during my discussion with @emiliametzel, creator of Beyond PANS and her mission to better educate and inform parents about PANS & PANDAS so more families can get the help they need and deserve.
